+1!
Unfortunately, it's like a lot of stuff that's "free"... we have become the product, so to speak. Not putting ads into something has always been considered "leaving money on the table", even for stuff that we pay for (I remember when cable television channels had no ads).
Oh, yes. Maybe even with disruptive advertising, as I call it - the ads with videos or other intrusive fidgeting. The very best way for a company to make itself absolutely unpopular with me, and the advertiser along with it.
I think in a couple of months I may try adding DS4.22 to my list of installed varieties (I manually install and have 4.10, 4.11, 4.12, 4.14, 4.16 and 4.21 installed in parallel), but will only test new models with it if the ads are still in use at that point.
I am NOT going to waste any of my limited screen area on something I would never feel anything towards except total hatred. One of the reasons I LIKE the DAZ forum and rarely use the Rendo forum is the lack of ads at DAZ and plethora at Rendo. Why would I then want them inside my working environment? Answer: I wouldn't & I don't.
Regards,
Richard
Downloaded via DIM, got the lates NVIDIA driver for my card 2060(super) as well,
had a bit of a hickup opening it while the DIM was still open so it didn't show my products and scenes and it didnT properly close for resart then (had to cut the process through the Task Manager)
Now it loads fine,
I don't see any ads in the program and I don't see where there could be any?
starting a scene with three gen 3 and one gen 8 didn't load anything faster than before but it does seem to render a lot faster which might be due to the new driver or the studio update
you could possibly block the URL for the ads in Windows Firewall
Open a document and they're on that popup that didn't used to be there before, along with some potentially useful stuff.
Also been on the last couple of beta versions.
I'm outraged, pitchforks, never buy anything here again etc...
So far not a fan. Lighting appears to react differently...and also subdivision levels seem to look different (look around the forehead spikes for most noticeable difference and eyes look squintier). Here is a side-by-side...same exact image and settings from 4.21 to 4.22. Spectral rendering. Lighting is HDRI with single spot and hair light. No mesh lighting. No ghost lighting. SudD 3.
And because I'm a complete and total moron, I didn't save a copy of 4.21 because I thought...how different can it be? *sigh*
What kind of document? A manual?
A manual would be a great addition, and i suspect it would generate more sales for DAZ than adverts, if users had a reference manual to refer to, since it would reduce frustration.
Trying out the new features. In the New Scene workflow video much is made of the new Templates. I get the new New Scene window but no Templates and no apparent way to add them (yes, I'm online. It added the advert fine )
Anyone got them?
Also, hoping some of the old VDB products get updated to the new emissives and get rid of the 'cheat' internal props.
EDIT - Found the templates. New item (to me) in DIM 'Default Templates For DAZ Studio 4.21+'
I have installed 4,22 via DIM but i don't know where it is No short cut and my 4.21 version is till working where i touch the new versio was D:\DAZStudio 64 bits PlEase suggestions ?
You guys had me panicked! Ha.
The advert is ONLY on the new scene popup; it doesn't interfere with workspace or take up valuable screen real estate for actually working on a scene. You can glance at it when making a new scene and then back to normal.
No ad here and just launched.
nm - guess it does or nobody tried so nobody knows. thanks anyways
The panic about the ad seems to have come from the New Scene workflow video. The only advert is on the side of the new 'New Scene' window. TBF the current 'ad' is a link to a tutorial on lighting. Think of it more as an information pane where it may have 'ads' when DAZ launch new products such as bundles etc (like the Death 9 one in the video).
I'd like to know if the new rendering options have made it need more resources, even if you aren't using the new features. I've got a fairly old PC, 12GB RAM and a GTX 1050 Ti . All this new stuff is fine for people with new powerful computers but will the new verion be more limited than 4.21 on my computer?
Even when NOT loggen in, you still get the advertisements. (I am not logged in)
I still got outbound dada being sent.
and it seems to "access" ALL your daz database directories with a (testaccess.tmp) file.
check the image, my 3rd party dir has nothing to do with the daz file I loaded in the screen.
I don´t know if it´s the new NVIDIA driver or DAZ Studio but i notice my 3090 runs significantly hotter during rendering than before.
My temperature went up from around 60° to 68/69°.
Edit: Looks like something went wrong during my driver update. Installing the driver again fixed the problem.
I've noticed render times are longer (so far). Also...I haven't gotten a single pop-up?
I wish Daz would put out systematic patch notes. I see today's feature page is saying something about ghost lights. So, for example, I'd kind of like to know exactly what they did (broke) about ghost lights before installing this. (I don't blame them for the ghost light changes in 4.20--that was Nvidia saying "Iray was not supposed to work like that, you were exploiting a bug whether you knew it or not, and we're not going to make it work the wrong way just for you." But now they've messed with them again?)
Eh. My policy on Studio updates is to wait at least a month for everyone else to find the bugs. Sorry, y'all, but I don't have the time to be a beta tester for this product (and, with thirty-plus years in software, I don't beta-test for free anyway), and Daz has shown they cannot be trusted to release software in a relatively bug-free condition. Mind you, that's not just Daz; that seems to be the case with almost all software these days. I am currently putting off buying that new Bethesda game because I have an ironclad rule "Never buy a Bethesda game until it's been out long enough for the Unofficial Patch to come out," which usually is about four months. I can wait.
Started the New Scene and up pops all these wondeful options..... on the bottom are store items, the first offerings, most of them useful, are all free so I have 5 freebies in my cart now. The right side is NOT an ad it's a tutoria link. Folks are always complaining about not enough info to run DS and here's a tutorial. I think folks jump to conclusions before they have actually investigated what they are looking at!
There are some handy links to videos linked on today's page. Here is the one about Ghost Lights - https://www.youtube.com/watch?si=-O1gvyqilrZHzX2B&v=-guqQhPDoMw&feature=youtu.be
Haruchai, no offense meant, but videos are not documentation (and I get really fed up when people say "Oh, there's a video for that!") I can not only read text much faster than the rate at which videos normally present information, but as a verbally-oriented person I absorb it much better.
If I put out an update to any of the software I maintain and did not provide my users with written patch notes, I would get a fair bit of backlash for it, and I would deserve it.
Or not log in to DS in the first place.

FYI they post notes to the Daz Studio Discussion forum all the time. The bigger problem is that the majority of us are not developers and need to decipher what it all means. So the video tutorials are great for showcasing the major updates.
Exactly what I bolded above applies to me. The fact I learn nothing from videos has meant Blender is a complete waste of time for me.

Richard
I think the new features are cool, I don't like but do not mind the in app adds, but this is something I truly detest and I wonder how the legality plays out (which would be dependent on the customer location). Shouldn't there be an opt-out option?
Still, you can always use DS in offline mode or just block it with your firewall.
