Is this the same fix that Richard posted earlier?
Just install one of the updated OOT hair products. The fix applies to all of them in a shared file.
As long as you use DIM/Daz Central/Manual install, and don't have a second content dorectory with an older version of the file that will; be found before the updated one.
You could save a materials preset - I keep meaning to look through my OOT hairs and see if they have consistent names, because if so a single Materials preset saving just the (lack of) map for Transmitted colour would be a fix - if not a Sahder preset would work, but that would skip only the last step compared with doing ti manually. But it woudl take less time to do manually than it may seem, looking at the steps as written down.
Sorry, I knew theer was another post I meant to reply to. You need to have the Iray Ghost Light Factor added set to 1 or more, and you need to have refraction set to 1 for both index and strength (so that the surface behaves like air). See https://www.daz3d.com/forums/discussion/609556/creating-a-ghost-light-daz-studio-4-21-1-26
Well, I just updated to DS 4.22 (after I createda restore point). So far I like it- it's noticeably faster with my I7/RTX3080 desktop. Yes, I see the ad in the New Scene tab, but it isn't intrusive for me. Most of the OOT hair I use are the ones for G9 and so far I haven't had any issues with them. Maybe the planets are in proper alignment right now... So far DS 4.22 is a worthwhile upgrade for me.
Edit: I found that OOT hair for G8 would crash 4.22. What I didn't realize is that OOT updated all the hair on 1/20/23, but somehow I had missed these updates. After updating to the new versions, OOT hair no longer crashes DAZ.
Thanks Richard... what i think i'll do is learn how to keep hold of a copy of the current version before tying the the new one.
One thing I have noticed that is bothering me is 'Open Recent File' is no longer available on two of my three computers. Only one still has it and I have no clue why. All updated at to the new version. Now on the two computers I use the most, I have to track down the scene file wherever Daz saved it. Very aggravating.
Add to that, on my MacBookPro M1, I have the added joy that if I don't open a product or touch elsewhere in the D|S desktop, and go directly to the Menu functions, D|S will crash. This is not something since 4.22 but one of the perks of my M1 and Daz's interactions.
That said, 4.22 is not crashing as often as the last Beta was. It often took five to seven crashes before I could get it to settle down and be ready to work.
I believe the thumbnails used to update when the pose preset was saved, but they no longer update when a thumbnail is present.
Scene data is updated.
Do you know how to fix this?
ThumbnailSaving is set to Always save/replace thumbnail images.
No fix by now... I reported this bug 18 days ago, with PB.
The recent file list is now a tab in the New sceen dialogue - the version which still has the menu has not had Update And Merge Menus run.
Was that so? Thanks. I will wait for the correction.
I would like the option to change the thumbnail size to 512*512 or 1024*1024 when the modification is made.
Oh... if so, you may sent a feature request as you wish.
Regarding the ability to revert to a previous version, what exactly do i need to make a copy of and where will i find it? (or maybe there is a thread covering this procedure?).
Hopefully i won't need to revert but i can't make the change without the peace of mind.
Thanks.
How do you install? Standalone or with DIM? Whatever it is you downloaded, copy that somewhere safe. If it is a standalone (.exe) installer, anywhere is good. To revert, simply uninstall the currently installed version and install the one you want.
If in DIM, copy the downloaded files for DAZ Studio (before you download the new version, otherwise your current version will be overwritten). You'll see them in DIM in the Installed tab, and will be where they were put when you downloaded them. Copy them somewhere else, out of sight of DIM. If ever you want to revert to an older version, move the current files (if you want to keep them) somewhere safe, and copy the previous version into the download folder. Uninstall Studio, make sure DIM is offline and refresh the list. The reverted version of Studio will now be visible in the Ready To Install tab. Proceed as usual from this point.
In addition to the Studio installer, there are a number of plugins that must match the version of Studio you want to use, like Measure Metrics, Decimator, Dynamic Clothing Control, GoZ for DAZ Studio, etc. If you own any of these you will see those in DIM in the Product Updates section of the Ready to Download tab, with the appropriate Studio version (i.e., Measure Metrics for DAZ Studio 4.22). The versions MUST agree with the Studio version, or they will not function. Back up your current version of any of those plug-ins, and process in a similar manner as the main Studio installer.
I just rename my existing C:\Program Files\DAZ 3D\DAZStudio4 folder to something else
you can also zip that up plugins and all
That may work for now, but it does assume that there are no system files or settings needed that would not be added by the new version (or that need to be removed for the new version to work). It is better to back up the zips, then you can copy them into the DIM Downloads folder while working offline and reinstall them cleanly.
Thank you for this... great heads up on the plugins too, i hadn't considered that.
(i use DIM)
Can i still do this if i have 'delete package once installed' ticked? (obviously my downloads folder is empty as a result).
No. If you haven't kept the download package, you can't make a copy of it to keep.

As a general feature request, it would be preferred if DIM could be told to not overwrite old versions of the program and its plugins (preferably with options for "don't overwrite last version", and don't "overwrite any version"). Daz may not want to officially support old versions, but needing to roll back because of incompatibilities or bugs that simply can't be caught in testing because of the massive number of combinations of hardware, OS, drivers, other programs, etc, is not that unlikely.
You're right, but.. DS is designed to cohabit cleanly with the beta with minimum work when changing to the full release version. Consequently, they have to be designed to avoid scattering random system files about the place, and be self contained. An approach I wholeheartedly appreciate. The net result of working with the beta version is that full release versions also cohabit nicely. I know there are no guarantees, but breaking that would break the ability to have a beta version on the machine too - not likely given the past history of DS and its betas. Regards, Richard.
Recent files is a stample of most if not all proper MacOS softwares used to open documents and I don't understand why they could not keep that menu's entry alongside the new screen dialogue: options are good.
Is there a way to send a suggestion to dev to add it back ?
Thank you Richard, I found it and yes it works nicely. The laptop I made sure to update and merge both versions of D|S. I appreciate the reminder.

I've just realized if I get a new computer then I will have to reinstall DAZ Studio and I'll be stuck with the newest version. I need a way to download and keep an older version right now.
Do you not still have the packages for whatever you last installed (assuming you use DIM)? Though I would be wary of taking the horror stories too literally - you may object to the UI changes (but they can be worked around) and there are a couple of known content issues (one of which has an easy workaround, pending a true fix, and the other a fairly straightforward (and sticky) self-fix
...ever since the DIM was introduced I've taken to saving a copy of the latest .zip to a separate archive folder which is also backed up..
A good routine to have. in case of a total system meltdown or having to make an upgrade.
Hello. I moved my content to another drive and now the items within the New Scene dialog are no longer there. The icon for a New Scene is but not the new 4.22 items. What might be the issue?
Have you correctly set the paths in DS? Can you load content normally, or is that too affected?
Sadly, I found out too late that the 4.22.16 update was so buggy. dForce is completely wrecked. Everything explodes immediately even when in the static T-Pose, no matter the product. Using Daz for more than 20 minutes while designing a lone character with no scene, everything slows to a crawl and eventually just stops responding. Saving often freezes the program. Rendering runs fine until 98% and then crashes Daz into shut down. Closing the program without using "END TASK" is a painful experience now, as it spends 30 minutes clearing objects.... Insanely frustrating to use now. It was never a fully stable program and had tons of draw backs but it is borderline unusable now. The worst part of all is I am only using a fraction of my CPU, RAM and VRam and it still can't help but go unresponsive!!!!!! Everything was running okay prior to the update and release around when the HEAT plug-in became a thing (minus the insane amount of time Daz stay open clearing the scene after I close the program). I have over 14,000 products and had to start uninstalling a few thousand of them just to get Daz running a little more smoothly last year since the library really hates people with tons of characters/morphs. I cannot believe that every time the program is given a stable release that they introduce some new gimmick and break the program again with the next release. Time and time again. :(
