What about the unexplainable hairdos? I mean really, Flock of Seagulls anyone? :grrr:
Dana
I was just wondering, has anyone here ever had to explain their hairdo? (I have).

Well, not so much explain, but took a lot of crap for my hair in high school. I was one of the first to grow it long and wear bell bottoms and such. Such a trouble maker! Couldn't I see that those bell bottoms were hurting people?
Dana
what would your consider as the minimum requirements to have a quality of life?
i need my bubby, good foof and treats for him. and pancakes and cake and ice cream for me.
watched 3 more dr.who episodes. the moving angel statues were creeeeeepy. no daleks yet.
There are a lot of people still out of work. And 92% of the new jobs added in the last 2 years are service industry. Sure, jobs have been added, but quality of life has not returned. The rich get richer, the rest of us...meh.
Dana
...yep. Had a few interviews but ended up getting the usual "while you had good qualifications we decided to go with another candidate who's skills more matched what we were looking for" email a week later.
...ahh, the ol' catch 22, they want people, with skills that match but will not give someone the chance to develop them.
As to the bulk of the jobs being in the low paying service industry. "Yep" again. With most manufacturing having been outsourced overseas (and this isn't just a recent phenomenon) now about all that is left are professional/engineering related occupations that require years of expensive schooling, and minimum wage stuff like retail, restaurant, secretarial, and hotel/motel services. At my age, even if I could afford it not really interested in going back to school for four to five years (only to most likely have the occupation I am studying for get shipped overseas by the time I'm finished). Already been there once with the arts teaching bust.
Retirement and pensions?. Unless you were a high level executive (like a CEO or senior VP of a Fortune 500 firm), have worked for the Government or the Railroads, forget it. May as well go to the corner convenience market and buy a lotto ticket.
...an income that didn't leave me stressed for meeting basic expenses like rent, utilities, food and still, leaves me a little after the necessities for keeping up with this hobby.
A work environment that is more positive (e.g. encouraging) rather than negative in nature (been there).
A daily commute that isn't half as long as my workday to where I feel I'm basically living for my job and that's it (been there too).
..oh, and...
...a forum that doesn't keep logging me off every few threads.
Katana wielding Droids, Now I seen it all. :smirk:
Best feeling when you make a prop, is when you see the custom prop Icon under its sub folder in your runtime :cheese:

Well, there is the medical/dental/healthcare field. That's about it, though, other than what's been mentioned already.
Dana
I would think it would be when you see someone actually using it.
Dana
auditors came and went. omg .... party!

You forgot: a nice local pub that serves a decent meal. At least I assume that, given your previous posts about that sort of thing. :)
Congrats Misty! \(^_^)/... I bet that's a load off your mind - break out the champers? ;-)
...those also require a specialised education (2 - 4 years or more depending on the position) and certification which again, is not cheap these days.
Basically what were once the core middle class" occupations that paid a living wage have pretty much disappeared which makes it the toughest on my generation as we no longer have the skills companies seem to be looking for and don't have the resources to get the training needed to stay competitive. With financial aid drying up due to budgetary restrictions, the burden of tuition and fees has fallen more on the individual. Going back to school to become retrained for a totally new career is pretty much a full time occupation in itself.
Then there is the issue of companies preferring to invest in younger hires rather than someone who they feel may only be there a short time. Again several firms I know of (one of them a major employer where I live) tend to push older employees out the door (with no retirement benefits) for younger ones whom they can pay less. There may be laws against age discrimination, but there are also a lot of loopholes to get around them.
i just want some money to buy expensive stuff from the Daz Store. lol
right now I'm downloading some stuff that I bought for $1.99. I forgot all about the dream home rooms and furniture in the Platimum Club section. I only have the living room and the small study.

...yeah that too (as long as they have a good burger made with cheese and bacon at a reasonable price).

ROFL! Yeah thats the Icing on the cake for sure!
..but some nice PC items this week.

Oh, I know that. Just didn't want them left out. I also know about the age discrimination. They get away with it all the time. It's very difficult to prove. Even if they tell you to your face, it's your word against theirs, unless you have a witness or are recording the discussion...something that doesn't hold up well in court if the other party doesn't know about it first.
There is the possibility of getting some training from from unemployment office, if you apply for it quickly. There is a very short window. I wasn't aware of it until after the period expired.
The other issue is that, at least in my field (programming) they don't want to even consider you if you've been out of work for more than a year. I've run into this, it's like hitting a stone wall...dead stop.
Dana
Well if you HAD clicked on those other links, you would agree with me... ;)

Yeah, I snapped up DT's latest HDR ProSet Yosemite. as a PC item for $1.99?! Wow!

Not to mention the expense of a lawsuit against a company with very deep pockets. If you just lost your job, how could you afford to sue?
phfshooo. thought i was going to go blind proofing excel cel. formulaes. found the error in the Jan 1st cell. how lucky is that?
expecting Game of Thrones s1 to be delivered today. tracking # says so, but can't believe those anymore.
iz a good day for a chocolate candy bar.
Well I must be off (or so I've been told :) ) Time for eatin'!
Every meal is the most important meal of the day. :cheese:
Did you ever contact the Post Office (or was it by UPS?) about it? If it was expected on a certain day and you didn't get it, you should contact them immediately, not just let it go. And if it says it was delivered but you never got it...then the likelihood is high that someone else is grabbing your deliveries.
Dana
Just started downloading that ProSet. 2 Files that total over 2 gig! :ahhh:
The Urban Rec ProSet was only 500+ meg. Woah.
Good thing I came to a local hotspot to download.
...good thing I changed my Net service.
[Hump day complaint:]
Oh BTW finally discovered why I have not been receiving newsletters. Seems the folks at Google decided to do some auto update and split my Gmail inbox into multiple tabs (that were so small they were hard to notice) without informing me. Had something like over 750 unread emails going back to the beginning of July. Lots of employment search and contact stuff was in it (now all moot of course), as well as a number of fairly good coupon offers and sales at Rendo, and and reminders from other forums.
Wonder how many good job opportunities I missed because of this.
So after figuring out hot to close all those so that everything which is not already flagged to a special inbox (like Daz Order invoices, Daz Forums, and Rendo Forums) goes into my primary inbox, I had to go through and pretty much mark everything as "read". Made for a really "productive" afternoon.
I really really hate auto updates especially when they occur outside my sphere of control.
..well off to do the weekly grocery run. Be back in a while.
