That's awful. I'm so sorry.
hoping it's just a transient attack, apparently has numbness but still control of that side, I still don't know details but if he gets blood thinners things should improve, most my mother's side of the family had strokes, some lived until their 90's afterwards
I am nonetheless terrified
Awww, Wendy. I'm so sorry hon!
So sorry Wendy! Sending good wishes your way.
this pandemic really makes it difficult for people with other medical conditions and their families
I imagine how it must be for those unable to visit their old, infirm immunity compromised family members, people with cancers etc
also those with conditions like asthma and their fears
I feel helpless unable to visit and scared to ring as hospital admin likely overloaded, this must be hard on so many
put away those isolation cocktails and chips and dips people, eat those baked beans
...oh no, Sending good vibes your way.
Very sorry, Wendy. Wishing your brother the best.
Corona is already impacted non corona patients. I am also sending best wishes towards you.
best wishes to you and your brother
thanks all he is slurry speaking but can walk etc
Sorry for your brother Wendy, I hope he recovers quickly.
Sorry to hear, Wendy. Hope things improve
It does happen to an extent, but so too does an increase in lethality. Think about the next flu pandemic (that we're still waiting for); the virus will do a genetic shift (much more change) as opposed to the genetic drift it does most of the time.
... And I'm still greeting it with coffee (and lots dark or black humour).
Damn, that's tough for you; wishing you and family all the best.
What's scary about the virus mutation: we had Sars I that was a lot more lethal but not so contagious because it could only replicate itself in the lungs and infection from lung to lung is a lot more difficult. Now we have Sars II which is less lethal than Sars I but a lot more contagious as it can replicate itself in the upper respiratory tract.
Now imagine if either of this viruses mutate and we get Sars III which inherits the strengths of both viruses? You don't need a high lethality rate for a virus pandemic to be really dangerous, if a new virus had a lethality rate of 10%, similar to Sars I but being highly contagious and we are in deep deep trouble.
Sorry to hear that, your family will be in our prayers. Stay strong and you will get through this.
I hope your brother recovers well and escapes additional complications, Wendy..
I'm glad you were at least able to get some info or talk to him directly hon. He's walking so they must have gotten to him in time! That's a plus at least!
Hey, WendyLuvsCatz, I wish your brother a speedy recovery... stay safe and try your best not to let the stress get to you.
Sorry to hear about your family troubles Wendy But I am glad to hear he is recovering . Hope things keep improving for your bother.
I was taught to "plan as if you will live to be 100" (most of my older relatives last well into their 90's - so that's somewhat realistic), while at the same time "live each day as if it might be your last, because tomorrow is not guaranteed."
As both of those ideas were simultaneously encouraged since I was very young, I find I'm more concerned about others than about myself.
We have internet with tools like forums, chat programs, YouTube, etc. We have many varieties of telephones. So we can communicate, see and hear each other. Nobody has to be entirely alone, even while physically quarantined. I see these options as a blessing. 100 years ago, most of those options did not yet exist.
I'm truly sorry that so many are suffering. I hope that they pull through. I also hope that everyone can move forward with a "new normal" sooner, instead of later. Yes, we will have losses to mourn. It's easier to heal from those, if we can hug others who feel the same loss. Until the quarantine lifts, such gatherings are not wise.

We can learn from this, and be better prepared if another pandemic happens during our lifetimes.
Hope everyone has a DAZ-tastic day (or as close to that as humanly possible, under the circumstances).
.
PS - I agree, Wendy, that this pandemic is a nuisance for those of us (or family members) who have other medical needs. -- Hope your brother recovers quickly!
Prayers and best wishes to you!
Wendy, wishing you & your brother all the best. Hope he can stay virus free in hospital.
Regards,
Richard.
Well I figured it would happen sooner than later that I would know someone directly affected by the virus. A coworker tested posiitive and is in self quarantine, a good friend on the west coast, his mother in in the hospital with it and just found out a distant aunt is on a respirator and barely hanging on. At least it isn't me yet since I still deal with idiots daily walking in and out of the stores I work at with no protection and no regard for others or themselves. Seems gloves and face masks are going to be a huge part of my life for the foreseeable future.
I was finally able to find some gloves on Amazon that will be delivered next week instead of someting in June. Still no joy on masks though. Still can't find a small freezer for love or money. Most are back ordered until June or July or just listed as out of stock.
...same here for masks as again I'd like one that protects both ways
So far several people I know have tested positive for COVID-19, but luckily none of them have had to be hospitalized... there have been a couple of others who have had all the symptoms, but couldn't get tested, but probably had it... one had a high fever for several days, could not get out of bed, was extremely ill and still could not get tested or treated.
One friend who has been having a hell of month (as in hellish month), trying to keep his business going (he is an essential business that keeps many of the town's trucks running), ended up tearing his retina, he went to the hospital for emergency surgery and now found out he has COVID.
The shop vac filter material makes a good mask material... sandwich it with a HEPA vacuum bag and you get more protection.
That is such a horrible situation. My heart feel for you and him. The hospital is the most unsafe place to be right now. Hopefully he has a phone and you guys can face chat. Try getting him a phone at walmart (a throw away) he can use to contact you. The hospital workers that treat the coronavirus patients walk down the same halls the other nurses walk down. The virus is known to be transmitted via shoe soles. If you can phone him, tell him not to use those socks they give you. It's better to go barefoot and wash feet while sitting on bed, than to get into bed with germ ridden socks. As for a bathing tub/jug/container of soapy water and use it to wash his feet and before getting back in bed. Soap kills the virus.
