March Madness? That's one o fthe big three traditional sales events.

Of course back when we got a core character bundles maybe once in six months to a year, the big three sales events really looked big.

The way things have been going lately, however, I think it's safe to say that this "PA Sale" will probably feature at least two new DAZ core figure/bundle launches that will consume most of the promotion, while the only parts of the sale that will really give any attention to most of the PAs will be the handful where they have every PA on sale at once.

Man, and they're not wasting any time with it either.  As predicted, the first of those Core Figure Bundles is about to drop with Sukai... :/

Entirely too tempting, the rest of the sale isn't worth my attention but the coupon for PA stuff definitely is. My problem right now is picking only five things. I have eight pages of wishlist stuff, filtering that way! I'd be spending mad money today if that coupon worked more than once. I'm sure it won't, but man, it's gonna be hard to narrow this down. I could easily make four or five still-hefty carts full of things I've whined about not having during the last week alone.

So far the pa sale seems rather mundane and routine. If I didn't know it was the Pa sale I'd imagine it was just a regular day at daz store

Yeah, I was thinking the same thing.

Usually the PA sale starts with a bang. Not much really grabbed me.

Just as well, the RDNA sale here & the sale over at "the other place" gave my card a right beating.

It all works out in the end:

"Saba'a alKair" is only $8 with the "MY-FAST" coupon, and the Iray add-on is still three bucks.

I would be interested in except for "Saba'a AlKair", but they only offered the Iray add-on while the original remains $30.

Make sure you don't already have that. If you picked up the Grimes bundle a while back it was included - though for some reason it still shows as not being owned.

First, there was the original Saba'a AlKair (PA), then Saba'a AlKair Iray addon (PC+), then, later, the Saba'a AlKair Bundle (DO), part of the Grimes bundle. It includes the content from both, with a bonus preset, in a new package, not as a set with the two original packages, so if you get the bundle, the originals will not appear as owned.

There is a catch, though. The bundle does not include the original Poser version, and is DAZ studio only.

  • Thoughts on Scene Optimizer and Fit Control? How well do they work? Do you use them often or rarely in practice? Etc. This is the cheapest that I recall seeing them, but with only five slots for the coupon, it's a tough choice.

Scene Optimizer is a good investment, but there's one glaring issue that keeps me from relying on it too much. It's not so much an issue with the product, but the way Daz works.

All node instances are linked together under the hood. If you optimize the original, all the instances will be "optimized" too. So if the Scene Optimizer tells you an object is 10,000 units from the camera and you optimize it, but there's an instance right in front of you, the instance will look ugly and low-res. Since the places you'd want to use it--high-density environments with lots of items--rely heavily on instances already, you can very easily shoot yourself in the foot.

My other major gripe with the product is that you have to manually choose what you want to optimize from a big list of everything in the scene instead of a node tree. You basically need to rename everything so it starts with a prefix if you want it to show up together in the list.

Other than that, it is a pretty good product. It's very useful for cutting down texture sizes as advertised, and it's very easy to restore textures so you can use canvases to selectively render things in high-quality. Just be warned, there's a lot of prep work you need to do to avoid screwing yourself over.

D'oh! Didn't notice that. Well, if you want the Poser version and 3DL, get the original, and the add-on for Iray. The bundle bonus preset just loads two sets back to back.

I wish we could bookmark individual comments instead of entire posts, because I need to remember this and exactly this. I own Scene Optimizer for exactly the reason you mention but haven't used it yet, and even though I know that node instances are linked, somehow I didn't make the connection that this is a situation where that really, REALLY matters.

I absolutely would have screwed myself over royally, and probably still will tbh.

I really don't see how PAs can make much money with the continual slashing of prices. And the prize for participating in the PA sale is that your new product is 50-60% off?

I suppose it depends on what you consider to be "much money".  A lot of PAs only do DAZ work as side jobs, which is why the store is so dominated by a handful of vendors crank out content like machines, which is probably what is necessary to actually be a PA as a full time job.   That said, one of the things that I've consistently heard from PAs is that, with most products, the vast majority of the sales made are within the first month or two of release.  After that, any sales that come in afterward are inconsistent, so anything that gets people to go back through your catalog and buy again is better than nothing.  And, as noted above, the "regular" prices for new releases are obviously inflated a bit to compensate for that, so buying a DAZ product at full price is pretty much the equivalent of buying at the full "sugggested retail price" at a regular brick and mortar store... and how often does the average person do that?

Some PAs say you earn a good living as a DAZ 3D PA only after your establish a back catalogue (that people must be buying a lot of for the PA tol say they are making a good living in a part of the world that I know is super expensive).

Speaking of freebie there have been a boatload of Cararra freebies. Is there some major update coming to Carrara from DAZ 3D?

I'm actually only wanting this, this sale: https://www.daz3d.com/reality-4-daz-studio-edition, although if the price is right on other products that I want I'll buy even though I don't need them.

bought for $15 with the 70% off coupon so I'm done

Yeah, that one was nasty... especially with Mesh Grabber and it's Addon in it, which haven't been reduced too much since they came out.

Does anyone know if a manual installation file has been added to the rotations add-on for Mesh Grabber since release? Its forum thread confirms that it did release without a manual option, and its store page still lists only DIM and Daz Central. It'd be an easy pick for a coupon slot for me otherwise.

How you feeling about the offers? I thought yesterday decent. Products offered new not too much, or today, nothing that grabbed me. The free hd and one product free yesterday plus 20% off was good, other than the 2 free counting ad 2 of the 4. Anyway, what you think?

If you want an HD that can't be seperated into head and body, I suppose it's ok.

    Never liked em myself.

the coupon was nice and I used that but I did not care for any of the debuts for a free HD

today's debuts are nicer mainly the ladyLittlefox tops and dresses, I would wear those myself

    Ha! I'm a jeans and t-shirt/shirt kind-a-guy.

Not been particularly impressed so far with the PA sale; I've always previously enjoyed it, even though sometimes its the older stuff we pick up that rarely goes on sale (which appears to be no longer true), or some nice new items.

I agree. I have and do on occasions use it, but as I customise all character textures, I actually use photoshop to convert folders when I need to. I have backups of the original files as I don't delete them just in case.

If you look at the user info on the left side of the post, that time stamp underneath 'posts' is a link that you can bookmark. I don't know if it works on mobile browsers though.

    Reported.

  • I only bought two things, not the ones I wanted the most off my wishlist as too broke but definitely appreciated the discount heart were still things off wishlist I wouldn't have gotten in a hurry otherwise.

  • If I used G8 more, I would get the 2 Sickleyield supers add-ons, the suit and the weaknesses. I MUST get her G8 clones for G3 this sale.

@Margrave, thanks for the Scene Optimizer info. I've had it in my wishlist for a long time but was debating whether it might be too complex for me. Unfortunately, I think the answer is YES, so I am taking it out. I think the Mattymanx Resource Saver Shaders would be better for me. Hopefully their store is in this sale soon.

The most recent Carrara-related news I am aware of is one of the PAs who made items specific to Carrara sold his back catalog to Daz3D and is no longer listed as a vendor.  That may be why his items appeared on the freebies list at this time.

  • DiomedeDiomede Posts: 15,225

On the PA sale, I used the MY-FAST code for the Build Your Own Fast Grab to get some Howie Farkes items necessary for his later UltraScenery Add-Ons.
