I wish we could bookmark individual comments instead of entire posts, because I need to remember this and exactly this. I own Scene Optimizer for exactly the reason you mention but haven't used it yet, and even though I know that node instances are linked, somehow I didn't make the connection that this is a situation where that really, REALLY matters.

I absolutely would have screwed myself over royally, and probably still will tbh.

If you look at the user info on the left side of the post, that time stamp underneath 'posts' is a link that you can bookmark. I don't know if it works on mobile browsers though.

Ah, thank you! Fourteen years and I never realized that was a link, smdh. I'll add it to my Daz folder.

Speaking of freebie there have been a boatload of Cararra freebies. Is there some major update coming to Carrara from DAZ 3D?

    It would be nice.

Maybe we're about to get our very own "bridge."

It feels like there is a sale every day! I can't and won't spend that much money. I'm keeping my money for a few weeks unless I see a fantastic deal.

I don't like the sales that make you buy a new release in order to get the savings. I want to buy what I want!

The MY-FAST coupon for 70% off is a great opportunity to get Filter Forge 9 Pro for only $30. If nothing else it is really great for getting textures to use in DS; but of course there are also a lot of filters for photo work.

That's probably because there is a sale every day. That's how the PA sale works.

So... you'd prefer if there were very few sales ever?

Yes. And less complicated. There is something to be said for quality over quantity. But i can only speak for myself.

Seems odd to me. Me, I want lots of sales so I'm more likely to see what I want, and it's more likely to coincide with whenever I happen to have money.

  • They DAZ, have managed to get me to spend money on their wares even though I really cannot afford to so all strategies are working IMO. kiss

I am however buying older stuff not new pretty consistently much now simply because I don't have the money for the hardware requirements of new stuff devil as well.

Every new thing I do occasionally buy leaves me dreadfully frustrated.

there was an extra PC+ sale for the pandemic

...yeah I scored pretty well on that one, just like the one coming up in a month or so.  Love those PC+ for a day offers though as more G8 and dForce stuff becomes predominant in them, that could temper my purchasing. I've actually passed on PC+ freebies when they were dForce or G8.

...bugger, read the FastGrab deal as the usual: buy one at 30%, 2 at 40%, 3 at 50% 4 at 60% and 5 at 70%.  Until I read through the thread I didn't realise it could have been applied to a single item for the full discount.

Oh well. I chalk it up to all the different types of sale formats I've seen here.

It might be a good strategy to go ahead and pick up whatever freebies you can.

When Daz went to Genesis & DUF format, I pretty much stopped using DS and worked exclusively with Carrara 7 Pro. Later I went to Carrara 8.5 Pro

Since then, it came to be obvious that Daz wasn't going to keep upgrading Carrara, so I started using DS again.

Because I had been picking up the Genesis era freebies, I had a pretty sizable collection of DS software when I ended up making the transition I never planned to make

I could do with another really good Gift Card sale I am running low on store credit and if the PA sale kicks up a gear I wont have the credit to pick stuff up when it appears (male content, male content....). I couldn't juggle the 20% the other day to fit one in with 2 Freebies eating 2 of the 4 allowed items. I'm also finding most of my wishlist is 'nice to have' and not 'must have at sale price', so I'm not moved to pulling the trigger on them.

    Agreed.

Then again I want to buy Sukai 8, I just think the stand-alone characters at $45 are rediculously expensive. I'm tempted to say rip-off as they don't even offer the same as many other characters, which come with custom HD.

I like lots of sales, but I'm less happy with very complicated sales.  So I understand people who say they would like more straightforward sales even if that means there are fewer of them.  But I get that complicated pricing is a strategy.  As long as there is complicated pricing, I want frequent sales.

So my answer is 'Yes...., then again, no..." which is what Warren Williams tells his hapless political stooge to respond to every press question.  The Dark Horse (1932) with Bette Davis and Guy Kibbe.  https://www.imdb.com/title/tt0022802/

That makes me the hapless political stooge.  surprise

  • I got Sukai 8, and then I got Kanade 8 in the fast grab offer, so I have enough kawaii cuteness to last me quite a while. I am happy. smiley

Oh, I totally get 'I don't like complicated sales.' That's somewhat a matter of taste, but also a trade off of time and money.

Complicated sales are one thing.  Complicated sales that don't work properly and frequently don't get fixed, with advertising text that is unclear and tortuously phrased and prices/discounts that go up and down at random, and with products that are getting thrown onto the digital shelves without sufficient QC are another.  DAZ has great PAs and products, but the vehicle that delivers them, the store itself, is frequently the digital equivalent of a clown car.

  • doesn't matter how complicated or simple they are

Today was easy. I bought 4 Joe Quick products on PA sale today really cheap (they are old Genesis products) and that was that. Maybe I will use the My-Fast coupon too today but it's been reduced to 60% and 3 items instead of 70% and 5 items. Only two i13 enviroments (library & dental office) I'm wanting to get anyway really. I will get more Joe Quick and Ant Farm stuff later if I have money & on sale.

I look at Daz sales like those brain apps to keep your brain sharp. Daz shoppers will probably stave off dementia longer than non-Daz shoppers because of all the exercise these sales math games give our brains lol. I actually started looking at it like a game. If things stack well and give a good price, then it’s win/win for me, Daz & the PAs. Otherwise, I clear the cart and wait for the next game!

  • if they have more old stuffs dirt cheap I am in

honestly I have reached my hardware budget limit and all the new stuff is too much for me

I have all the cool legacy DO's but there is still a lot of awesome pricey PA stuff to grab yet for V4 and M4 etc yet.

  • DAZ shopping is as much of a hobby as DAZ rendering!

It seems we've had a sale everyday for weeks or months. I have a sense of "sale fatigue." It's hard to maintain a sense of excitement over a prolonged period of time. For me, too, there is the question of whether I am really interested in what's on sale. And there are the "complicated" sales that require you to buy one or more items in order to unlock a savings or get a store credit. Why did DAZ start offering Store Credits? Did DAZ run out of money? Probably not. As a customer, I don't want to extend much energy or effort to make a purchase and save money. I'm also more selective. I want content that fits into whatever direction or projects I have in mind. Oh, wait, I haven't really completed any project, in 20 years. Oh, yeah, and I need to save money to build a dedicated "DAZ Computer."

Many of you won't agree with my opinions. That's nothing new. I wish you all the best.

I've been shopping at Daz3D for a few years now, and I STILL get excited when the store is about to switch over and I'm waiting to see what the new day's offerings will be. lol I can only afford to buy about once a week, but I still come back every day to check things out. :)
