I look at Daz sales like those brain apps to keep your brain sharp. Daz shoppers will probably stave off dementia longer than non-Daz shoppers because of all the exercise these sales math games give our brains lol. I actually started looking at it like a game. If things stack well and give a good price, then it’s win/win for me, Daz & the PAs. Otherwise, I clear the cart and wait for the next game!

hahah Yeah, that is kind of how I look at it too. Plus, shopping Cart Janga can be fun. :P

  • 3Diva, good for you. I was very disillusioned or frustrated with my own lack of abilities. Then, a few months ago, DAZ introduced Mabel 8 and a few other older characters. That renewed my interest because I am interested in creating a series of cartoons portraying the lives of older folks like me. I'm still dealing with some internal stress, so the project, and my spending, are on hold.

I remember seeing some of your character ideas over in the Art Studio section of the forum - they looked really interesting! I hope that you're able to work out the internal stress factors and bring those characters and cartoons to life! :D

  • 3Diva, thanks for the compliment. If I ever build my new PC, it will be much easier to get things done. I usually get excited, and just start cranking out pages etc. It's easier if the computer renders an image quickly.

Milton. Like quite a few other males. Similar. Not much "character". Ho hum

Thankfully he's not the reason I bought the bundle. Between all the discounts it cost less than getting the items I wanted individually.

  • This has been my first "PA Festival" at Daz, and it's been rather disappointing.

I had guessed that each day might feature a major PA (or a group of PAs with smaller catalogs), with discounts starting around 50% off and sale offers along the lines of "get an extra 5% off Zeddicus items for each one you buy, up to 75% off".

Instead it's been... pretty much business as usual, except with Daz screwing over "Day 1" buyers of the Sukai 8 bundle and giving better prices over the following days with the artificially staggered releases of the support bundles.

Some of the daily deals have been useful (scooping up some PC+ items on the cheap, and build-a-fast-grab for a good price on Studio add-ons), but they haven't really been anything spectacular.

The highlights for me have been some excellent new releases (Sunny Days 1, Sunny Days 2, Shipping Crates and Cargo, Temple Cave) and the Sukai 8 bundle (which is among my favorite recent core bundles, putting aside the fiasco). Not the associated deals, or anything specific to the PA Festival - just the items themselves.

So... how long does this thing last? Does it usually get better as it goes?

PA sale lasts the whole month.

  • My heart beat faster at Linday's stunningly beautiful hair - so perfect for my main character! - but it's G8,dForce, and iRay only, to boot.  Welp, that's that.  The spider I wishlisted is in Fastgrab... might treat myself to that, instead, just to say I reduced my wishlist!  So far, this PA sale has been the epitome of dull, and I barely check in on it, but that works out for me  - I just put down two flats of cauliflower, and tomatoes are next...

That spider does look great! It's on my wishlist, too, but I'll probably wait for a discount on the bundle since I've spent a bit here this week already.

Fast Grab has been pretty good recently: Alien Queen, Deinonychus + Feathers, Red Crow Inn + Bedroom.
  • I actually need the spider sooner than later, so I'll grab it now, having spent nothing at all, I'm good with it :-). I looked at the Inn, but seeing the horror of the geometry of those beautiful sets in 3DL, it's a hard pass.  Still can't fathom how it can shrink... so weird.  IRay gets more alien every day! :-D

I already had the bedroom and love it, Red Crow Inn + the poses was a no-brainer. Not the cheapest they've ever been but still too good to pass up, I've been wanting those for a long time. Apart from the 70% coupon and the couple of hours the 60% one malfunctioned, the Fast Grab section has generally been better to me than the sale. I seriously need to build a new computer to handle all of the resource-nuking environment stuff I've been buying lately.

I love the Temple Cave and Rain Tool, but I've also spent a lot lately so they'll likely get wishlisted (though definitely purchased later). There's really no incentive to buy them now, the buy-in for category discounts is steep (two or three debuts) and the discount itself okay but not great.

Never buy bundles on the first day; worst that happens is that you decide to wait a few weeks/months and get it even cheaper.

Sometimes the release deals come pretty close to matching many of the later deals, and sometimes they include useful perks - for example, the Honni offer gave some ludicrous discounts on other items. But in general, I think that's good advice. It applies to other digital goods, too, such as video games.

But this was literally the next day. That's insulting. Daz should have given something to Day 1 buyers - perhaps another $10 credit, or the Milton bundle free, or some other apology.

I'm not really angry about it, but it has lessened my opinion of Daz.

That's what I suspected from looking at it, but it is categorized as dForce hair on the store page.

  • Still needs dForce :-)  "This Product only works with dForce Cloth Engine."    It looks very pretty, but I know the excruciating frustration of simulations, and I just can't go there.  I can re-fit, I can re-texture, but I can't dForce.

So... Stacking discount flash sale incoming, perhaps? Seems rather tame otherwise, although I suppose there could be some rarely discounted gems in the sale selection. Any shout-outs to good buys?

    Agreed... Sometimes. Close.

On balance, waiting is always better - especially if one waits long enough. smiley It's about balancing how much cash we part with versus how badly we want to buy it now. Hell I'm still rendering G2 items for the first time - and don't get me talking about V4 era.

That depends entirely on what you're looking for, and what you'd consider a good discount.

Grabbing multiple G3 items from the featured artists results in a 64% discount on them. It's not fast-grab good, but wouldn't call it bad either. Iray Smart Converter and Advanced Skin Managers for Genesis 3 used to be very popular, but don't ask me whether the people who raved about it for several years (yes, several!) since it was first released still use it or whether it works with G8, or whether there's an even better similar product now.
Genesis 2 items from the Featured Artists combine to a 68% discount. But, most of these are not iray, so they will need some texture rework.

There are also some other things than clothes available. A couple of vehicles and environments, mostly. But, some of the older scenes are pretty nice if you convert them to iray.
Most older products can be converted to Genesis 3 and/or 8. The biggest exceptions are footwear (sadly.. Sometimes it works, but generally, I just don't bother) and scripts. And with older Victoria products, you have to check around whether they actually work in Daz Studio. Some things, like dynamic clothing and fur, won't work in Daz Studio unless DS is specifically listed. Poser scripts (like in Terradome 1 & 2) also won't work in Daz Studio (Terradome 3 is Daz Studio only on the other hand).

Still there are some very nice and useful things hidden there, it just might take some effort to use them, but it can be nice to create something that people won't recognize easily, and would take some effort for others to duplicate.

I like the recent PC+ releases a lot, and the new Sweet Street vignette is quite pretty I think. I don‘t usually buy on release, but this time I just might. Besides that, I also miss the fun and excitement that sales used to have. Are all the flash sales being saved up for the PC+ sale maybe? Will be waiting until then, too. It‘s not really a sale without them in my view, just no real fun.

Can somebody who has purchased both that hair and one of the two add-ons let us know if dforce is a requirement or not?  It looks like with the add-ons there might be a small number of adjustment morphs, but not having used it I'm unclear if I'm understanding the description correctly.

There have been some really nice new releases, which happens anyway, but the sale itself hasn't been anything special.

Yeah, and the Labor Day Weekend sale, so far, has been pretty yawn-worthy. I really expected at least a couple of flashsales.

  • Rofl this whole sale has been boredom punctuated by major malfunctions. Things showing up as part of a snoozy sale, prices rocketing up in the last couple of hours, then jumping up again, and the sale price wasn't even that great to begin with. That's what I get for waiting to see if Daz is going to do a flash sale since the actual one is so mediocre, rather than buying right away.

I just spent the money elsewheRe, instead. They'll eventually go into a bargain basement sale for $2 again, less than half of what I was willing to pay today. :)

  • This PA Sale hasn't had a lot of either PAs or sales. It seems more like the everyday sales, but only lasting a day or two instead of the better part of a week. And most of the promos, like today's, are the type I hate--Buy X Debut New Release/s (from tiny group) to get Y &/or Z. I don't do them because often there isn't an eligible debut release I want/need since I don't use G8 or dForce much. Now, Buy Any New Release/s & Get XYZ promos, that's cool; there's always something New I like but held off on.
