For me it just got worse - here's the horrible mess I'm seeing on Internet Explorer today (yesterday it was bright and white but still fairly compact)

Which IE version?  Everything is looking fine here in IE11, both in Win 8 and Win 10.

Thanks, good to know - mine is older. (I knew I should have upgrade when I had the chance.)

AFAIK you can still upgrade to Windows 10 from 7 and 8, for free, if that's what you mean.

    No, I meant IE11 on Win7.

I don't want to go to Win10 on this machine, it's specs are wholly inadequate (it's a 10-year-old laptop with little memory and little disk space that I only use for internet and downloading DS files to a USB stick to transfer to my offline PC). I have Win10 on my tablet, which I barely dare to switch on because it eats up my (fixed monthly) download allowance doing massive Win10 updates at the least opportune moment. I'm dreading the day when my laptop finally croaks and I have to replace it.

ETA: I'll make do with Chrome browser for the store meanwhile.

I am fairly sure you can set up your windows 10 to state that the internet is metered, and in this case it will only go off and grab updates when you give it permission to.

Finally, because it is "der Fotomann," the correct writing of it all is "der kleiner Fotomann" (the short photo guy). The "-er" at the end of kleiner is the proper way to modify the adjective in the Nominativ.

@mcorr sorry, but I have to correct you here :)

In german it actually is a little bit more complicated, the correct writings are:

the small man — der kleine Mann

a small man — ein kleiner Mann

But when used without an article at all, you‘d use „kleiner Mann“

OK.  You can turn off Win 10 updates completely though, at least with the Pro version.  I have a Win 10 which hasn't been updated for 2 years now (just my render machine so it's not important), it's on the network all the time and I get regular update notifications but I just close them and it doesn't do anything.  Another one (build 1809) hasn't been updated for a year or so and doesn't update either, unless I allow it.

I don't know though if they have changed something in later versions that makes it impossible to skip updates, I'm planning to upgrade the 1809 machine to the current 2004 build, I guess I'll find out then.

Uh, that sounds bad.  Was that 2004?   The have a newer "20H2 " update coming soon (maybe they're already rolling it out?).  I'd prefer to wait until that has been tested a bit more and then get it instead, but I need to test something on a newer version ASAP, so it will probably be 2004.  Then maybe do a fresh install with 20H2 instead when it's out.

I know, and that was exactly what I told him was correct in German. It's on page 6 =)

That said, I augmented the post in order to fully explain the entire matter without any confusion. Thanks!

Something about the Windows 10 Build 2004 clobbered my PC with regards to File Explorer responsiveness. I think they went overboard with searching for trojans when you use the file system. They are supposed to release a fix that amounts to a partial 'roll back'.

@Taoz, you can? I thought that finished back in January? I'm still on Win 7 but looking at 10 when I finish upgrading everything. Didn't realise I could upgrade to 10 now?

So if change is afoot, how about showing file sizes on product pages? I bought The Old Pumping Room recently and was surprised to learn that it consists of four parts totaling almost 3 GB in size. I don't regret buying it, but this information should be available to customers before purchase.

Well you still could in August according to this article, so it might still work:

That's a lot of big textures.  Tipoff right there.

Yep, but even so, it's larger than I expected - I think it's the biggest single product in my content library. I don't want to return it - in fact I downloaded it tonight - but it was a bit of surprise.

I totally agree. Some of the products I bought are very large downloads.

If the garish “new” and “sale” signs must at all costs to people’s visual well-being be retained on the promo picts, I would suggest placing them into the lower right-hand corner of the picts so that they don’t obscure what is a ciritical area in the promo picts. Covering these up with huge signs isn’t necessary, nor adviseable. The stark colors will force themselves unto peoples’ macular cones and rods anywhere they are placed, even if taken completely off the promo picts and put into the area below where those mostly unnecessary symbols live ... which is where the signs would best be consigned to.

On product pages for bundles, the thumbnails for what's included have virtually unreadable dark gray on black text:

I take back part of what I said earlier about ignoring the little icons - I find the figure compatibility useful.  Two comments about them:

1 - I find G8M and G8F to be easier to read than G8 with the male/female symbols, and they also take up less space

2 - Textures for clothing don't identify compatible figures and use the same clothing icon as the actual clothing

  • Regarding the New Site Design...

    The Good:
    * Product Library page is awesome!  I love the new minimalist look and the fact that it retains key info, such as the Product SKU, ReadMe file link, and Order Number/Date.
    * The Store Product thumbnail images look cleaner with the description in the white bottom section, and the little icons I find useful.

    The Bad:
    * As many others, have said, the small heart icon (i.e. Wishlist icon) is too small to be easily seen when trying to scan quickly through lots of pages.
    * The wishlist heart icon is located in the upper-right corner of the product thumbnails, but then on the Fast Grab pages, the heart icon is hidden behind the red rectangular SALE banner in the upper-left corner (see screenshot). The design should be consistent... heart always in the upper-right.

NOTE: Look at the hidden heart icon behind the sale banner in these 2 products from my Fast Grab screenshot... MountainScapes Backdrops Volume 3 and dForce Latin Wedding Dress for Genesis 8 Female(s).

I;m not quite sure how I feel about the new style yet.  BUT, there is one thing that I am liking.  That is the fact that there is now a way to know what the product is or is for right on the page instead of having to look specificallly at the product.  While I think the PC+ indication is a little too easily missed, once I get use to it, I probably won't have an issue with it.

  • WHY, WHY, WHY? This format change is terrible. It looks like the designer was trying for a more contemporary style, but ony succeeded in making everything less visible. The Favorites icon is particularly bad. The teeny tiny gold heart icon is really hard to spot, especially against a similarly colored background. When I'm scrolling through fifty pages of sale items, trying to find any of my favorites, I want the icon to be as conspicuous as possible. Please, please, make it so.

Not so awesome is that all that key info (apart from the order number/date) vanishes for items removed from the store. If we've bought those items, we don't suddenly never need that info again.

I'm only getting one long row of items. The site is unusable for me as it is now.

edit: And I can't change what I want to see listed. It's stuck on "what's new". All the filters and options are missing. They're just gone.

edit2: Yeah, if I go on any sales page, I only see one row of items. The rest is blank. I'm using Opera which uses Chromium. The gray boxes in the screenshot below continue forever vertically.

edit3: I tried it in Firefox. I now see that the "what's new" is supposed to be a box of preview items before the actual list of items. In Opera, the "what's new" box is infinitely high, so I can never get to the list of items which is why I said the filters are gone. Not sure they're gone. There's just no way to get to it. Also, the "what's new" box like everything else only shows one row, so it's not drawn correctly anyhow. Opera uses Chromium, the same engine a Chrome. So not sure what's going on with the DAZ site.

edit4: It's now the day after my original post and edits. Site now works in Opera :)

    AlienRenders,

The new store isn't playing nice with the version of Opera you are using. It looks like you'll either have to update to the latest version of opera (O<Help<About Opera) or download and use Opera GX. The current Opera update version that works with the store is a bust on my computer as it freeze/crashes so I ended up switching over to Opera GX. You'll probably feel at home with Opera GX judging by how you have your version of Opera set up since the tabs are black.

Edit: Added Opera GX download link.

    AlienRenders,

I forgot to mention that link is Windows only for Opera GX. If you are on a Mac, Opera GX is still in testing. There is, however, a sign up for testing it out on Mac open until Nov 19.

Link to testing sign up page: https://blogs.opera.com/desktop/2019/11/opera-gx-coming-to-mac-os/

They still haven't chased down all the green purchased icons - sigh -
I've seen a number of store redesigns but this one is really shoddy...
But at least it's not has bad has the silver-grey effort they did some years back.

  • I always have the latest version of Opera. The DAZ site seems to be working now in Opera. Site seems to be a lot snappier too :)

The browser addon can send you an email when a new sale starts. Daily sales usually mean new daily items in the store. Then you can do whatever you want with that email. Have it beep for you, or whatever you set your phone up to do.
