I think the only error that DAZ made ist to name the Figur Victoria. If they had chosen another name, I think this thread will be about 50% shorter. (Hope you understand me, english is not my native language)
You make enough sense and I think a very large majority of people (if not everyone) would agree with you. Though I understand their use of Victoria, I do think a different name would have gone a long way in clearing up a lot of misunderstanding and confusion.
Okay, I'm a believer now -- being able to use G8F hierarchical materials presets, shaping presets, and even full character presets on G8.1F, meaning upgrading is as simple as loading G8.1F and merging in the character preset? It's all good. There's some tweaking that needs doing (as well as having to track down the 'Essentials' in my content library since it was mislabeled in the product name as G8M Powerpose Presets of all things!) but it all works.
Did a fast and cheap render of one of my stock villain characters after transfering her. She's... chestier now, which surprises me, but that'll be fixable easily enough. Otherwise, I'm calling it good.
(Though the moment I can get a Riversoft/Sickleyield 'G8F-to-G8.1F' converter to automate bulk upgrades, I will. But then at this point I practically have a Riversoft Art and/or Sickleyield line item in my monthly budget so that's hardly a surprise.)
I had that Problem too, after updating daz to 4.15 it worked.
If you look at the shape she is essentiall just Genesis 8 base more defined. In that sense she has nothing in common with Victoria 8.
Thanks a lot for announcing this, and thanks to DAZ for doing right by us and releasing the vellus hair for us V8.1 buyers as locking this feature behind a $100+ paywall was not sitting well with folks!
Can you copy the skin texture from Genesis 8 to Genesis 8.1 and the character morph too? Because I love the characters I created for my love and make them as realistic it gets.
Again, Victoria 8.1 is a new character with different morphs and different textures, not "Victoria 8 tweaked for G8.1". Just like Victoria 8 wan't simply a G8F version of Victoria 7. She's basically another core character.
Of course if you're not interested in the new character then don't buy her, but nobody is asking you to pay for "a figure you already have".
I agree.
I suppose calling her Victoria 8.1 made sense from a marketing point of view, as the first female character for their female figures(or the figure herself, befor the Genesis line) has been "Victoria" for years.
But since 8.1 is an update and not a new generation it also gave the wrong idea that she was an update of V8, which she isn't.
Yes, skins and morphs for G8 will work with G8.1.
G8 morphs should be available automatically on your G8.1 figure if you have DS4.15 from what I understood.
EDITED OUT BEFORE DELETION
I'd just like to add that Daz is doing the right thing with progressing the industry and our hobby...
Am I imagining, then, that I read on some page that there was a PDF tutorial covering the new PBR skin shader? Pretty sure I am not making that up.
/edit of course I can not FIND it NOW. So maybe I did imagine it.
I think this is due to the fact that they changed how to face is rigged in 8.1. Hopefully there will be a converter tool soon.
Expressions using morphs should still work, which is at least a starting point.
I do like the new look for Victoria with 8.1, and I pprobably pick her up when they have a good sale or freebie on her. In terms of 8.1 figures besides her that I have 8.0 versions for already, naw, I will not rebuy them. I'm terms of of a release of "7" series characters , my picks would be Rune 7 and Ophelia 7. These have been dropped from the Gen 8.0 line and I would like to see them again as 8.1 figures. Both were beautifully made and I like thie r muscular detailing over many of the Gen 8 figures. In terms of the men, I would like to see Lee 8.1, but as he looked in his 7 series look. The Gen 8 took a step back with him.
I found an issue that the new PBR shader shows texture seams with G8/G8.1 and V8.1, any workarounds/solutions?
NOTE: I use and rely on spectral rendering mode exclusively, so turning it off is not an option... Thanks in advance for any info that you can share!
Ha, all about beauty is in the eye of the beholder.
Attractive, realistic looking figure, including breasts; her face has both character and is pleasing to behold.
My experience with my test let me use the G8F expression dials under Pose Controls, and their results were essentially what I expected. Click-expressions seem to give weird results, but dial turning seems okay.
I'm still not understanding...they haven't "re-released" any existing characters. Victoria 7 has about as much in common with Victoria 8 as she has with Olympia. They are all completely different characters...the only thing they share is the name. Victoria 7 looks nothing like Victoria 8 who looks nothing like Victoria 8.1.
I don't know if your using Smart Content or not so im going to post my steps with both.
Content Library:
1. Load G8.1F. Make sure she is selected.
2. Goto the Character you want to load. Genesis 8 Female/Characters/BJ Noemi/ I dont have Lyra but will go with another Bluejuante character Noemi. Double click the 01 Noemi Head Apply then the 01 Noemi Body Apply. Give it a minute should load on G8.1F.
Smart Content: Pretty close to the same
1. Load G8.1F. Make sure she is selected.
2. Goto Figures/People/Female/Noemi HD & Smile HD
3. In the list on the left (Figures/Hair/Materials/Shaping) Go to shaping and in there you will find the 01 Noemi Head Apply then the 01 Noemi Body Apply. Double click to add to G8.1F
Alternate: Or you can click in Figures and hold down CTRL and double click on the BJ Noemi icon in there and a box pops up with three options All/Materials/Morphs select which you want and click ok. Using this options takes longer to load for me. When I first did it I thought it was going to load the whole base G8F and everything which it what happens when you just double click on the icon.
This was my concern too. Yes, you can apply skin materials from G8 to G8.1, and the same with shaping. The major stumbling block is backwards compatibility -- not being able to apply 8.1 content to existing 8 characters -- but you can migrate your characters into 8.1 and Bob is in fact your Uncle.
My understanding is geoshell based stuff is wonky right now, though I haven't tested it, and I have yet to try adding microtextures to an existing set of 8 materials applied to 8.1, but so far I'm pretty happy with how they're doing this. There's gonna be some weirdnesses during the launch and we're going to find places it breaks, but that's par for the course.
I did the same, debating if I should return the bundle and then purchase V8.1 or just keep it because I also used my PC+ coupon but then again I paid 52.34 for the bundle plus 30% exchange and didn't really have a need for the other products and if I had just purchased V8.1 it would have been closer to 22.00 so 30 some dollars difference for what I bought and what I actually wanted.
Wonderful! Thank you for the heads up. I've been waffling back and forth on picking up one of the bundles to get the hair as well knowing there is nothing (save for the new dForfe hair released today which looks wonderful) that I'll ever use but I want the character. I'm happy to know I can still get the hairs with the base character.
I think OP meant they hope Daz would focus on core characters we have not had yet with G8 (named characters from previous generations who don't have an equivalent or totally new ones) rather than revisit the ones we already have (which could be interesting too, mind you, but we already have core characters to cover that concept/genre/niche so they'd rater have different characters first)
To be honest, I wouldn't hate it if they gave Mike and Josie a makeover like they gave Vicky. Like Vicky, I'd never use those base characters alone.
I would love a tutorial on the new skin shader explaining the additional sliders and what they do, hope its a video tutorial with PDF.
I think they should expand the feature list instead...
"Horns, wings, mertails, fangs, goat legs and horse bodies have been added for the female face and body"
"Cat and fox morphs and shiny cat fur have been added for Males"
That's the same logic as with the female bumpers... Since I know a woman with two beach balls on her chest, that should be the starting point for any 3D base model as well...
It's just easier to make things bigger and taller than smaller and shorter, at least has been with these models ever since I got onto the wagon with V3/V4.
@melissastjames, which ones are you calling DO HD expressions? I have a gazillion expression packs and I was trying them one by one but got frustrated. Maybe if I started with some that wok I could feel more uplifted
