"People Are Stupid" event of the day:

I got a nice email from a recruiter, title "Engine Designer Needed". I was all "cool, I've done 2 full game engines n the past, let's look".

Open the email and it turns out it's for a CAR ENGINE designer! :ahhh: :ahhh:

My resume clearly says "Game Engine Designer" on all the job entries I have listed. You'd have to be either illiterate or phenomenally stupid to confuse "car engine" with "game engine". :blank: :blank: :blank:

I pointed out the confusion as politely as I could in my reply, but he's still a bozo. :blank:

I can see me firing up my first.. and last.. car engine: "KABOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOM" :blank:

Yeah, pretty amazing. Valve also announced that Source 2 would be "free for content developers", which I think means so you can create stuff to sell on Steam.

There's got to be a way to turn this into enough money to live on! :snake:

More game engines gone free - this one for 2D games, which will run on more phones than UE4 or Unity as there are FAR fewer computations involved:

    http://www.gamasutra.com/view/news/237943/Corona_Labs_releases_its_mobile_SDK_for_free.php

I've played with the Corona SDK and for low to mid level phones, this thing runs pretty well. Likely I'll use this for some simple games as the market will be larger and not requires quad-core processors with hardware 3D.

In High School, I was the only one in the Physics class who knew how to set up the Tesla Coil they had languishing in the store room. When I fired the thing up and put a 4 foot fluorescent tube in my mouth then lit it up by letting 150,000 volts jump to a rod in my other hand, the whole class was so grossed out they didn't talk to me the rest of the year. It was a blessing... One of the Physics teachers was a washout from the Astronaut training program. He was impressed.

I think the transaction processing went like this:
    User Entry: Game Engine Designer
Search Engine Response: Your query returned 0 results. Please try with fewer keywords.
    User Entry: Engine Designer
Search Engine: Your query returned 73,421 results. :shut:

Car engine designers have things that go KABOOM all the time. The story goes that Lotus got hold of a new Coventry Climax engine to modify for racing. They sent it to Coventry for testing after the mods. It blew itself to smithereens on the Dyno. Coventry swept the pieces into a box and shipped them back to Lotus without comment.

Funny how the game engine developers are doing things smarter than the game developers :B

...yeah, many places use what is referred to as "black hole" filtering software to evaluate (e.g. "weed out") resumes. Often times your resume is never seen by a human eye unless you are one of the "lucky"ones to get called in for a preliminary interview. Even then you cannot be sure the interviewer has looked at the resume in his/her hand.

What is worse, even call back contacts are automated. I've received a number of calls that I could easily tell did not have a "real" person on the other end of the line.

...miss the days when you saw a help wanted sign and could simply walk into a place and apply. Now you are told to go to the company's website and submit your resume or fill out an application online. Online applications is also how recruiters can get away with asking "illegal", and/or "inappropriate" questions like your age, marital status, SSI# number, etc by making them "required" fields. If you don't supply the data, you cannot submit the application. When I see that I just say, well that's not a company I care to work for and log out.

Seems HR departments these days are more in the business of keeping you out of a job than hiring anyone.

Sometimes I feel I have a better chance at the Megabucks Lotto than getting an interview, let alone be hired, these days.
