New, non-DO releases for Friday Feb 11 are going for 30% off. However, new releases from a few days back remain at 20% off.

Not just Friday, the last 3 days have been the normal 30% off, it was just two days that were 20% off. It's not as fun to post about though, which is why no one mentioned it.

Maybe they were testing the waters and found out it went over like a lead balloon? ;)

  • It would be interesting to see how dramatically the reduction in discount affected sales earlier in the week.

The presumption seems to be that this is a move by Daz, I can't help wondering how much input the PA's had and if it wasn't possibly requested by them.

    I totally agree with you!

One comment I read from a PA that had a product released on Tuesday suggest (to me) that they were not aware of that move. That PA was wondering why the new release was selling not as expected (compared with previous releases).

    Thanks a lot, @Mark_e593e0a5

Daz seems themselves to figure this out and tests today again 20%.

  • ...and another 5 items that I would have bought today now are waiting on my whishlist. Dear Daz, I do understand if you have to raise prices, but not THAT way. Out for today, spending today's budget elsewhere

  • I will buy Zeus finally but lovely Siberian kitty will have to wait

AUD 0.67 exchange Paypal even he will be dear but he is lovely

Two items that would have been instabuys at 30% - wishlisted.

  • James_HJames_H Posts: 1,046

    Two wishlisted also. Ah well.

  • Some real nice stuff today, but not at these prices. I'll wait.

well that certainly makes me feel justified in not renewing

I am somewhat the same, though in my case was running out of money to be able to renew.. sad And well on seeing this it might be a while before I do renew, since funds are tight right now.. sad

    daveso said:

BTW --there is a DAZ Original in the newly released today that is on 45% off, not the usual 51%, so it appears to me DAZ+ discount has gone down as well.

If that is the case then the wanting to renew my Daz+ will now take longer if at all..

So glad my store credit ran out.

Looks like pc+ or whatever wont get renewed either.

My Daz+ runs out Sunday, and with this change I am on the same boat and not going to renew, pretty much can't don't have the funds.. lol

I'm also jumping on the at least 60%+ discount band wagon. The fact that DAZ abruptly makes changes to its membership programs with little to no fanfare and then seems to decrease what we get out of memberahip is troubling. I'm over it. I just won't buy new content. That sucks for the artists. I hope this change doesn't negatively impact their income.

    J

If that happens then like many past PA's, they will likely migrate elsewhere or stop entirely..

yep. DAZ is for sure losing me, especially on new stuff and the way sales are conducted overall. For instance, having to buy x,y,z to get an extra % off  on something isn't a discount at all. We all know the game so no sense in going farther on it.  Seeing the 20% on new release is kind of a butt whomper.

Agreed, this place just isn't what it once was in many ways. But DAZ is still my preferred shop.

The "buy this to get that" almost never works to get me to buy anything. I'm not going to get something I don't need/want to get something I do want. But, the strategy probably works well for new users. All the sales that require me to add things to my cart to see the real price are also a big fail for me. I don't enjoy spending time shopping to get the best deal possible, I'd rather spend time using the stuff. The increase in prices just means I buy less. Yes, I get it, the cost everything has gone up over the past couple of years. Unfortunately my income has not, and my free time has seen a dramatic drop in availability just trying to keep up with diminishing buying power (plus other personal issues that also cost more time and money). Therefore, I have to be quite frugal about my purchases here, increased prices translate to decreased purchases.

competition in the marketplace is a good thing. too bad there isn't much anymore.

Thankfully there are a few other options for me. I have started purchasing more content at the other place (starts with an R). Unlike DAZ, they have very simple and straight forward sales, so I don't have to play cart gymnastics to figure out what the cost really is. That saves a lot of time!! But you do have to be rather selective with the vendors there, many don't produce the quality I prefer. But to be fair, IMHO the big push for DAZ to have tons of new stuff all the time seems to have dropped the quality standards here too, so I have to be equally as selective. One big plus to the other place for me is they actually still sell a lot of type/style content I like ... sorry but I love impractical armor and fantasy/scifi skimp wear. That's what lured me into Poser/DS. I've tried to move on from it (I simply love Frazetta style art), but doing so leaves me uninspired and unproductive. I look at the V4 stuff I have, and really wish similar high quality sets were available now ... with improved textures!!

But which place that starts with R be that since there are three, and one is for the NSFW crowd.. laugh lol

I do have sympathy with the PAs and the margins they have to endure to make a living. However, my buying power is determined by my meagre income. I am not complaining about my income - it is what it is and I have enough to eat, pay my rent and keep warm in winter. I don't have enough to pay for an expensive hobby so, without the big discounts I just wouldn't be here posting this. I might be learning to play my old electronic keyboard (something I've long promised myself but never actually done anything about). Or I might have taken up oil painting again (something I enjoyed during my teens and early 20s, half a century ago).

Very true and agree I do feel for the PA's who have to whether all this, it will not be easy that is for sure.. With regards to surplus income I am in the same boat, and more so now with the cost of living slowly going through the roof..

It is very disappointing to see the 20% back again. Suppose you wanted to buy all 8 of the new items. By my calculations, you'd pay 18.76 more than if Daz stuck to the regular 30% off new releases. sad No sale for me today, either, although the cat shape/material looks cute. But over $20 is just too much to tempt me. I mean, it is over $20 and it doesn't even get you the cat; it is just an addon requiring the purchase of the cat. 30% off would have made it around 18.17. Even that still seems pricey.

  • There's a lot to like today product-wise. But with those prices/low discounts I am also out. Characters for $15 each, outfit for $17.5, hair for nearly $20. Make everything 30% off and maybe an additional 10% off for 2+/3+ items and I'll probably spend too much again. They way it is I rather wait and get the stuff I like for >50% off some months from now or even not at all.

No wonder I purchase more and more elsewhere. Just yesterday. 3 clothing items for exclusive 50% intro discount, cart price for each item from $7 to $8,50. Boom another 3 items I bought just after release not bothering whether I maybe can get a better deal some weeks from now.

So - back to the original q of the original poster - has there been any official explanation at all regarding this new, less attractive intro discount bundled together with generally higher prices and less attractive platinum discounts?

Well, I guess more PAs will be wondering why their sales have slipped, now that Daz has reduced the discount to 20% again. Daz appears to be determined to bite the hand that feeds them.

and watch them move from DAZ to other markets. It's a trend that is becoming more apparent since DAZ is failing to communicate with PAs

I prefer to have my decisions simplified; so, 20% intro discount = no sale. I have the resolve of a maple leaf longhauler on this.

even the featured artist stores has been lower, and the other sales groupings lower as well. its been slowly going that direction along with rising price. the price of inflation in january was 7.5% over the last 12 months. there was a comment in a report that the average consumer/household has their spending increased by $275 per month over the last year.  That fact takes away my spend here, and puts a nail in the coffin with reduced discounts and higher prices.

Inflation makes the world worse for everyone sadly. It's not DAZ's fault.

it might not be their fault, but it surely puts the buy here out of touch and it doesn;t help that DAZ has had to raise prices to meet the expenses. Hobby expenses do not equal life needs and bills, so hobby goes out the door.

  • Well, I typed a long winded post about this changing Daz3D company that I used to admire. Then, I heard my momma's voice in my ear that said "If you ain't got something nice to say, keep your mouth shut". Well after all the deleting and editing the bad language and such, I tried to make Momma happy. This is what's left of my post.......I've spent enough here over the years, to buy a REAL brand new shiny car, even at today's prices! Now, I just can't justify paying today's prices for virtual products. Time to wake up and get REAL! Sorry vendors, I hope the prices will come back down so that I may continue to do business here.

  • mrposermrposer Posts: 1,130

At least I am recovering more of my morning..... today I only spent 20 seconds on DAZ with the bad new prices instead of 30 minutes looking thru the buy 1-2-3 new products to get 65% off 4 or 5 categories of older products.

There are several things I'd like to get in today's offerings. But I will not give the nod to DAZ that it's okay to reduce the discount on new releases. I'm wondering if they thought to retry the lesser discount because of the big name vendors releasing products today. I'm sorry, not even a Stonemason or April release will get me to okay this new practice. Sigh, not even an amazing new cat. And I so love cats.

20% is basically worthless that it's probably only saving a few cents than dollars. It's literally just a scummy way of making it look like it's discounted but instead it's full price.

It is not just a few cents. Today the lost 10% amounts to an average of over $2 per product.
