  • Got one item from the Madness Grab Bag yesterday. If it goes on like this my store credit will easily last until the end of the month.

Same here, and today as well, just threw in a WL item for good measure. Not much madness really. Or fun, for that matter.

2 So far for me, nothing today.

I was looking at my March spend last year of $337 with $157 in the first 3 days.  A few $5 interactive licenses which are free money for Daz (I mean how many games have I published erm.... ah yes zero so far lol)

I had a good sized cart on day one with Tricera and Hacker Hideout but the prices changed (Tricera was 44% off then wasn't) and I dumped the cart.

I see nothing that i need. Nothing that i need to buy 3  items to pay more for. it just doesn;t make financial sense for the customer at all. There are a bunch of my wishlist items on sale but there is a buyin which i am not going to do, so I pass there too, plus the fact they have been reduced much more in the past. Oh well.

Ultimately, it seems that the DAZ sales and marketing people are having one of those periodic bouts marketing people have of "It isn't broken, but let's try to fix it anyway-itis," having forgotten that the acronym DAZ has practically been rebranded to stand for Drop All Zhorts after years of using slashed prices and discounted/free product tie-ins as the central pillar of almost all new and catalog product promotions.  (Which is at least better than Dachsuands and Zuchinni, but let's not go there...)

My previous experience with marketing, working at a large entertainment company is that they love jumping on bandwagons just as those are leaving the station, or come up with "great" ideas without consulting with the creatives.

It ceartainly seems that they've been brainstorming a lot lately, and not to the best result. All these weird "gives us money for some special/exclusive stuff, but we won't tell you what it'll be" deals. And weird themes, like astrology signs. It looks like DAZ marketing is just throwing stuff at the wall to see what sticks. Or maybe they had a big brainstorm, put all their wacky ideas on index cards and randomly pulling them out of a hat.

OK, I understand well that DAZ and  the PA's have to make the money. I'm my own businessperson as well, relying solely on what I drag in.

    But that's not the point.

The point is that MM used to be a fun event worth looking forward to, something that brightened up the pre-spring, which in my part of the world is a really gloomy affair. Every morning you anticipated some cool things and good deals. And yeah, you bought a lot of stuff you really had no need for, like yet another bathroom or yet another post apocalyptic warrior's outfit complete with a bare belly. You just did, because they were cheap stuff and it was fun spending and thinking you made a good deal. Because the next month that bathroom or outfit would be twice as much.

Now it's like you have another look and go 'meh' and only bother with the freebie. (Remember, earlier MM's used to come with extra freebies too).

And the MM often began with a big bang. Something awesome for a really good price to pull you in.

Now there was no bang at all, you hardly noted that MM had started because it was so lacklustre. Had I not known that this was supposed to have been a special sale month I would hardly have noticed that something was supposed to be different at all.

Well I guess there's someone somewhere who'd done some calculating and thinking the new market strategy will pull in more dough. And perhaps they''re right. Doesn't mean that I as a cusomer would be along contributing to that gain.

R.I.P. and meh, very apt descriptive terms for MM this year.

Main thing I miss is the forum fun we used to have around March Madness. Now it is just a name stuck to a lousy sales period.

  • At this time last year I'd handed over $92 (and another $400+ went out the door by the time MM was over)

This year, so far, it's $0.

I keep waiting for things to get exciting. Maybe they will.

I bought a couple of pieces of the football bundle, but more pieces to be bought still yet. And I still want to buy a couple products from the Mardi Gras bundle. Guess that's not really MM though.

Agreed. It's the FOURTH of March and I have yet to spend a penny. Usually by this time my credit card is running and hiding from me.

interesting -- Last year I spent $0.00 from the 1st to 17th but had 11 orders. I ended up spending $200 the rest of the month. Light weight overall, but more for me.

Only a few days in but it is being pronounced dead already. I'm hoping for some more of those $1.99 or $2.99 days that were in that other sale around last October time. Maybe that was the Platinum Sale in which case they probably won't do that with the MM sale but, hey, they could throw more into that $4.99 bin ... that's all I've looked at so far. I can't generate any interest in Warrior Queens or Medieval Knights nor can I understand why such categories seem to be assumed to be what we all want.

I'm hoping the constant inclusion of Animations in sale after sale indicated that DAZ has a new, improved animation timeline up its corporate sleeve.

There's probably any number of valid reasons to raise prices and drop discounts, but the present day is really the absolute worst time to do it if you're not in the direst straits. Everyday prices are skyrocketing and people worried half to death, and there goes their one fun little hobby also, slowly drifting out of their range. Doesn't make the remotest sense to me. Also, I'm not seeing Rosity doing it. Are you?

That's it, yes. Economic crises are effecting buyers and sellers, and it's reported that it will all likely get worse... Maybe with Daz3D it's also something to do with a change in ownership... I don't know... And there's the lower variety of products that we're noticing here. So many changes in just the last 3/4 of a year! But I think there's a broader reason for these things as far as we, here, are concerned.

I believe this relates directly to what Daz3d is NOT doing about the worsening of the economy! They are not providing users with better options in these difficult times where the DS software itself is concerned.

This is not off-topic, folks! It relates directly to our willingness to buy props and characters.

How many of us can afford the increased cost of the GPUs that are required for iray? Or even systems that can handle some of the new tools. My i5-2500K with a GTX-1060 cannot handle newer products. I'm embarrassed about buying the few I have purchased in spite of that.

I have skipped hundreds of dollars worth of sales over the last 3/4th of a year due to the realization that I will not likely ever be able to use them. (This is based on my suddenly bloated wish list). But there's one hope left for people in this situation.

Daz3D needs to upgrade that one renderer it has which could actually provide images better than 3DL and which can be quite nice compared to iray.

Then I will have a reason to upgrade to a machine that wouldn't bankrupt me, but would be able to handle the various new tools that my current system simply dies under! I could provide the book covers and inserts I've promised my sister (an amateur writer) for the last few years. I'll wipe out that bloated wish list of mine!

But most of all, an ability to have high-quality rendering at GREATER SPEEDS would incentivize people here to buy more products, and that would incentivize providers to create a wider variety and better quality of products!

    Boom! That's capitalism!

I look at all the details on the sale page and my eyes glaze over.  I don't even bother reading any of those "buy this bundle and get one of the selected things for 30% off".  I'm not going to buy a bundle to get a discount on something else.  Sorry for intruding with real life, but the price of food and gas is going to "skyrocket" now.  DAZ has developed a "corporate mentality" and it's now a "factory" churning out tons of content.  Before it was artists creating content they were passionate about.  I'm not upgrading my computer any more for DAZ.

I hear you. The sytem I have is starting to chug on the new stuff, so I'm about done and wont be able to afford a new system, can't even get a video card if you want one.

    Agreed.

I have been wondering why they moved to THAT business model. Previously, a bundle would come out & for me it was often an "insta-buy." I would pick up most bundles, even if I was lukewarm on it, but I would pick up maybe a few other bundles I was lukewarm on Because of the discount deal, but then I'd have a decent deal.

Now the bundle prices have risen & the 30% discount on extra stuff seems absurd.

This past week's Cyberpunk from Africa was kinda cool. I don't tend to buy male characters, but for Cyberpunk I make an exception. Maybe I'll pick up the distaff version when she comes out.

I don't know how Daz thinks this is a good idea because I've not bought a new bundle in awhile.

..well 3 days into the sale and I finally made a purchase,  Oso's "Weasel Dragon" for 4.99$ (Leela would adore him) that's been on my wishlist and a Daz+ set of useful shaders. for 3.00$.  (along with the Daz+ monthly and weekly freebies).

The Dragstrip is cool but there are no top fuel or funny car dragsters to put on it.

The Fantasy Deer Fawn from the 2nd caught my eye as she would work great for my stories, but she's G8.1 only which will not convert to G3 with teh script..

May go for the Angler outfit in the grab bag as that's on my wishlist (and I have "proper" fish for characters to catch).

Have most of the critters I need. Really like AM's Lynx which sould be useful but it needs the Lion as teh base (wish there was a generic "Felidae" base like was available for the Rodents).

Not into horror so that category is a pass.

....so maybe spending only 4.99$ today.

So today if the grab bag prices were like last years’s PCFAD $1.99 sale I would have spent $40 on 20 items. Instead I’m purchasing one item at $4.99. DAZ/PAs lose $35. 19 PAs just lost $1.00 each from me while one PA is making $2.50 from me. Yesterday I didn’t buy anything in that category but if everything was $1.99 I probably would have also spent about $40.00. I was spending about that much daily in the $1.99 sales last year. Now I’ve spent a total of $20.00 on those items over four days, averaging $5.00 ($4.99) a day. I’m sure many people, like me, are open to buy almost anything at $1.99 but much pickier about $4,99 It seems like it would make more financial sense for them to bring back the $1.99 sales. But, whatever, I guess it’s working for them...

@Wonderland Same for me, so far I bought one 4.99 and I'm considering (!) one today. Previously the only thing I've considered was my sanity whenever I checked out.

With the previous discounts and side deals I'd also get new releases, but there's zero incentive to get them now. But 2+ to get 50% off on items that I've passed when they were 70% or more? Suuure.

For me today marks the end of the first week that I did not spend a single $ on Daz. My credit card starts asking questions. The mix of items is not very inspiring, especially the new ones. And for those that would have been interesting, the new discount model kicks in. With the new budle setup (e.g. one set of wardrobe split up across various items), I really do hope they do not start selling each button or zipper as a seperate item. For me, this MM already is taged as "the worst sale I ever witnessed on the Daz store".

  • cherpenbeckcherpenbeck Posts: 1,413

One bonus to March Madness: It made me take a hard look at my wishlist (because I wasn't in a buying frenzy and had some spare time on my hands), and it made me decide to delete items I'm sure not to buy with present prices. So my wishlist shrinks even without buying.

  • Sci Fi FunkSci Fi Funk Posts: 1,198

One ray of hope! - Sort by price ascending on todays MM deals and you get a load of $1 items.

OK it's more like a pre-vault sale, but if you have a use for V4/M4 stuff (I do - for lo-rez background characters - the older clothes are light on memory use), then it's still a Mad March! (Kinda).

  • UthgardUthgard Posts: 866

Yet another day where I would've bought a couple new releases if they were at 50% or even 40%. Heck, this whole thing started when I saw one of those very few things I would've bought at the usual introductory 30% and held back at seeing on one of the 20% days, so we can't say we weren't warned things would start being even worse than they've been over the past few months (since the store change, basically).

Also, yesterday I agonized over which, if any of the $4.99 items on my wishlist to get, where with the $1.99 or even $2.99 I would've grabbed a few things that weren't on my wishlist, and, after settling on a couple of items, I got held up and missed checking out the cart. I just saw them at full price right now, and, not feeling the usual regret or frustration I feel when missing out on a deal, emptied it. So, thank you, Daz: you're really helping me with that whole "being a responsible adult who doesn't waste his money on virtual items he may never get to actually use" thing.

I just found myself buying a couple reduced DAZ+ items from ages ago out of sheer despair ... DAZ, guys, what are you doing?!

Aw man. I *really* like nearly all of the new releases today. The knight set is sweet, other kewl outfit and characters and props... and in any other sale I'd be having a field day. But here's the thing; unless you're needing a product tomorrow, DAZ isn't giving any incentive to buy now. The best older item sales you can get is 40 or 50 percent, which is pretty much just lower prices than normal, and even the new releases themselves are only reaching a tentative 30% off. Anyone here knows that, given a couple months, those prices will drop at some point, so really you may as well just wait.

Per previous MM sales, when new releases might have been 40-50 percent off, you knew that that was lowest price it was going to be for a while so if you liked it, you would buy now. Add to that a miriad of other reasons they'd give you to buy those new releases now! (conditional freebies, big sales, $ off certain products etc.), and I'd image they'd probably make most of their $$$ off the new release sales.

So, yeah... today I'm putting a bunch of stuff in wishlist and just looking forward to getting them later at a cheaper price.

I also wonder about the Gift Card change. If I had store credit, I might have impulse bought. As it is, I'm thinking about whether I want to wield the plastic. So far I haven't. There may have been a Gift Card sale, but if so I missed it (in UK). So purchases so far at $0.

If this keeps up for March, I may have gone some way to conquer my Daz addiction. So there are lots of positives.
