I wanted to try a certain modeling program, but forgot its name. Also searching for modeling programs that have trials gets results for a different meaning of modeling.

Modeling focused, or has modeling in it? Most programs nowadays (Sans Poser and I assume D|S still) have modeling on the side, since there really isn't any reason not to.

Modo, Rhino, Silo, Blender, Cinema 4D, Lightwave, SketchUp, Solidworks... Lots of the things :)

    ...
Hmm, Pluralsight bought Digital Tutors, and now ye can access all of Pluralsight's coding stuff if you had a subscription for either site. Pretty cool, even though I don't think I'll ever be having much use for server information and stuff - Javascript maybe, but even that's a longshot

I think it was Silo that I was thinking of, or Modo.

For some reason I feel like I did not get a good night's rest last night.

I am trying to watch a video on Vimeo but it would not stream for me. Finally I found a way to download it so maybe I can watch it.

Hopefully you can watch the video in your media player.

I got the videos downloaded and put on my tablet. I was trying to download the highest quality then it dawned on me that I wanted to watch them on my tablet so I downloaded the tablet version and that worked better.

Some photos a friend took of himself in his raptor-suit. I think is cute looking :)

Pic 1: "These make hugs just the best! Wing hugs > normal hugs"

Pic 2: "Would totally spook when seen in the night or under a moon with just the right amount of light. Tho watch out, these teeth are pointy. So no sticking your fingers in or else them fingers mine."

Pic 3: "Is that food? That smells like food. Give give!"

    Freezing rain is falling. Ugg.

I got a job, kinda. It is a volunteer job programming some small database related programs for a security company. I feel like I'm an intern but I am not going to college. lol At least I can put the volunteer job on my resume.

Congrats! That's a good way to get your foot in the door and definitely good to add to your resume.

Morning. Sunny and warm so far today under an endless bright blue cloudless sky seeming to dwarf even the biggest city tower :)

You're having a lovely time. Wish we were there. :)

Plenty of shady spots left, all welcome :)

Maybe we could get a group rate and all come down for a visit. That would be great!

    @Annie - I'd be in! :)

Well, this weekend sucked. About 5 inches of snow, side roads not plowed, so Saturday was a stay-in kind of day. Sunday it melted enough to go out for a few beers and music, so that was good. Today it should hit 40F and give us more meltey goodness.

BUT - I ate waaaaaayyyyyyyyyyy too many spicy wings and my body is very unhappy with me. They sure went down good, though! :)

Decent today, rain tomorrow, snow Wednesday, rain Thursday, decent Friday. Never a dull day, weather-wise. :smirk:

    UUUrrrrrrp.. Tums time.. :blank:

Well, we got more snow last night. It probably ended around 4:30 am. Looks like six to seven inches. I'll be shoveling again later.

I succumbed to Fastgrab and got Giselle 6 and a tatted-up beauty, for less than $20 total! :bug: Totally impulse buys, but I suspect Giselle will make a nice pinup if I put her in some fantasy skimpwear. :snake:

I need to set aside a little cash to deal with March Madness, in case something appropriate turns up for cheap... :red:

Thanks! Well, it's 31F here right now with an expected high of 35F, so it won't be too cold when I go out to shovel. After shoveling the first storm with 15 inches, 7 inches is not a big deal. Diane just did around her car. Later I'll do the rest of the driveway and the mailbox and the fire hydrant and maybe even do the back yard area I've been doing. I don't have to, though, I can wait on that. I filled the bird feeder yesterday before the snow got crazy.

Well, it's only day two of March, but the madness hasn't been so mad for me so far. March Madness used to be fantastic. But this business of buy two new releases to get any deals on other stuff is just a damper. I don't have a lot to spend anyway, but that makes it a no-starter for me. We'll see how things go as it wears on.

I understand. A few years ago I could grab a pile for cheap, now it's a big investment to reach the savings.. definitely not encouraging me to buy anything.

Blech. The last working board has died on me, so I can't test any of my new code. The hardware guy is nowhere in sight and nobody has heard from him since Friday morning. I'm fairly close to dead in the water. :blank:

Maybe it's time to go back into game development.. with a small investment I could develop for Windows and Android, if the game took off then I could afford to buy a Mac and an iPhone. Plus, I can do my own audio work! Whooopieee! :cheese:

Unity Pro is $1500.. a laptop with a decent 3D card is under $1000.. the free version of Unity is good enough to start making simple games.. Blender is free and will export Unity assets.. hmmmmm.. still know a few folks in the biz here and there..

Zombie Slugs Games, anyone? :snake: :snake:

    speaking about coding:

One nice thing about my temporary volunteer job is that I can write computer code at home. I just upload and download the code onto their remote server.

Also, I don't need to wait for the bus in 20 degree or freezing rain weather.

    I'm dangerous when I'm bored! :snake:snake:

    - Zombie Slugs Games blog set up (nothing there yet)
    - Unity Free downloaded
    - Latest Blender downloaded
    - Emptied my wishlist out so nothing to nag at me
    - zombieslugs@woolyloach.com set up
    - I now own zombieslugs.com

To do as soon as the DNS records update, have my domain point to my Zombie Slugs Games blog, and put stuff into it. Tonight I'll install Blender and Unity and get to work. Next up, save for a nicer but not too expensive laptop to dedicate to gamedev. :snake:

Might as well use some of what I learned as a game developer.. lol.. probably being stupid here but I'm getting tired of working for other people!

Fun times ahead.. need to think of a game, I have 10 million ideas already! :cheese:

I want a cheeseburger.. going to go out for one for lunch! :)

*edit* No content on the site, but ZOMBIE SLUGS GAMES is LIVE! Now to think of something professional to post...

Reminds me of the Wind Waker for some reason :)

As for Unity... Friend of mine uses it a bunch, coder and one of the project founders for that Saurian dinosaur game. Sometimes makes small "play for scoring" games in freetime to keep in practice, always been urging me to pick it up and learn it as well.

Poor guy doesn't have much freetime nowadays though, hardly even has time to talk with friends except on weekends :(

Digital Tutors has a lot of Unity stuff on their website, they just picked up Blender too and have been publishing some stuff for that software as well. Lightwave's only got one course to its name right now, Blender only a few more than that, but this was the case when they added Cinema 4D to their lineup as well. Took some time for the quality to come rushing in but once it did, it was all pretty good.
They've started adding some software I've seen on Unity's shop too, Substance Designer or something?

Sounds like a cool guy.. although the lack of free time is a side-effect of some game development, no idea if that's the issue though.

When I was a gamedev, it literally chewed up almost every spare second and broke up a few relationships. But, having been through the process of starting my own game company I know what to watch out for.

I'll be blogging about the learning process on the Zombie Slugs site, so you can watch me stumble around and decide if you want to endure the pain (lol)! :smirk:

No, it's more a consequence of his job. Saurian was a hobby, and one he has almost no time for these days. I didn't ask what specifically he does, but it had to do with coding software - and he's typically so tired coming home he just goes straight to bed.... Then wakes up and worky work again.

@Unreal thing, yeah I recall reading about that on DT's blog. Unity, Unreal, and CryEngine have all been doing everything they can to make their engine more appealing than their competitors - between new and/or improved features, they've been trying to cut prices or lower the "strings" attached to budding developers (As in anyone not affiliated with a massive company like Activision, Microsoft, etc), and so on. If one engine looks to be more "user friendly" for smaller groups, more users will flock to it over the others, and as such they'll get more users and money in the long run over an engine that had superstrict licensing fees and restrictions.

Ok, gotcha.. I'v had many a day where I just went home and Went To Bed(tm).. it can grind you down.

I haven't really looked at CryEngine as I'm not looking to take on Electronic Arts or Rockstar Games (heh).. I've played with Unreal's tools in the distant past, so I figure it's worth another look. Unity just seems to be tuned to smaller teams, which is me (heh).

Now to check into Github for offsite code storage.. wouldn't want to lose everything due to an HD crash. :blank: or maybe pay for extra Dropbox storage.. research time..

Well, I just spent an hour and forty five minutes shoveling. I did the back yard after all. Damn, some of the stuff was really heavy! All achy now. That's my complaint. Well, it's one of many...most of which I don't bother to speak aloud.
