I feel the same way. I only have so much time per day to do something like this and at this point only so many days. It is worrying me to wait. I picked away at some yesterday. It is time consuming. It would take every day between now and Sept. 30 to accomplish this.
This would have been way easier if they'd just automatically added these to customers accounts, instead of making us waste time going through every product and adding the licenses manually.
Particularly since most of us probably aren't even going to be 3d printing all that much any time soon. I don't have a 3d printer and don't foresee getting one in the short to medium future.
Having the licenses has definite potential value for the future, but they should've thought this out better.
The way to approach this should have been:
One thing that drastically cuts down on the time that this process takes is to go to your account and do the bundles first. Just a quick tip.
No, there have been quite a few vendors whose products were partially culled by DAZ over the years, long after they were initially placed in the store. The thing is that usually they're older products or from Vendors who've stopped releasing for various reasons. A lot of PC+ products started off that way.
+100
The continued lack of clarity on this is beginning to concern me quite a bit as well. It won't be easy to carve out the time needed to manually add all the licenses I would like to my account, so it would definitely be greatly appreciated if DAZ would provide a more automated process. For me, it's really important that they give us a yes or no answer in the next week, because anything much later than that and I wont have the free time available to purchase the licenses manually.
I would guess that the store runs on some form of SQL based database??? If so, it should be a fairly straight forward process to write a "simple" SQL query to update the qualifying products in everyone's accounts. I would think it would also be fairly easy the put a temporary button somewhere on an account page to trigger the execution of the query should they prefer to have the customer "purchase" the 3D licenses. I may be over simplifying this a bit, but I used to have to create SQL queries to extract and update data on an enterprise DB system with multiple interlinked tables. You could easily destroy data with a bad query, that's why we ran a second duplicate test environment so we didn't accidentally kill the live data with an error in logic. OK. so it may not be simple at all to do the auto update if the DB is really complex, but I doubt the DAZ store is running over 2,000 tables like we were.
Usually the only time Daz buys out PA products is when that PA is leaving Daz. If that happens now then I'm betting you will have to buy the license being as it wasn't a DO at the time of this offer. If that happened ahead of July then I'm sure you can get the license for free but afterward will have to pay for it. None of us in the forums can answer that question definitively so a ticket would be your best bet.
Back in 2013 I had purchased "DAZ Horse 2 Pro Bundle" and after 2022-07-12 I purchased "Into the West Mega Bundle" which icluded DAZ Horse 2 but not the "DAZ Horse 2 Pro Bundle". As others have found buying the "Into the West Mega Bundle" replaced the order number and order date with the date of the "Into the West Mega Bundle" purchase. However, the date on the "DAZ Horse 2 Pro Bundle" was still the original order date and order number. When I "bought" a 3D Printing Licesnse for that bundle it added a 3D Printing License for DAZ Horse 2. But that won't help for items that aren't also in a bundle purchased before the cut-off date nor if that bundle was included in a mega bundle purchased after the cut-off date.
Personally, I believe changing the order info for previously purchased items is a huge mistake. They should preserve info from each order.
My bigger concern has to do with the affect on the database of recording 3dprinting licenses as individual items. I've added 3dprinting licenses for 6944 of over 8000 items that should qualify. Loading the product library page on the web site now takes over 2-minutes 45-seconds and the size of the "_products" variable in the html has grown from about 5MB to about 8MB. How long do browsers wait for a response before saying the page failed to load?
I'm not certain anyone did a propper impact analysis of all this.
Also, as I went through my old items (man, what a trip that was) I found a number of items that would qualify for the free 3D printing license but they aren't in the store any more. How are we supposed to get licenses for those (or even find them quickly)? I thought someone already raised this point and maybe opened a ticket. Anyone get an answer on this?
I guess basically they are not availble. I pointed this out to CS and got the answer that if the license was not on the product page then it was not available.
Thanks. That's what I was afraid of. Ah, well. I did "find" a lot of things I'd forgotten I had while going through my library so there's that. :-)
Well I "finished" collecting the licenses for my library, but it's still missing a chunk.
The reason for this is because if you're adding licenses rapid-fire, it doesn't always register and add them to your cart. Even when it says that it's added, sometimes they aren't and you need to reload the page and add them again. I really hope they do add a bulk option while the promotion is still valid so I can get the ones that I missed. It would help everyone else a lot too.
If they don't, I'll probably do a quick check for the most important content I want to make sure I have licenses for before the promo ends, but I'm not worrying about it anymore. It'll have to be good enough. I already went through my library once. I'm not doing it again just for this.
I do appreciate the fact that they're giving these to us for free, even if I don't have an immediate use for them.
I will confirm this problem ... I thought it was only me and the slow internet here. But I became very cautious. I would add 10 licenses at a time and then check the cart - which many times only went up by 8 or 9 ... so I had to find which one did not add and redo it. Very frustrating. However, I was only doing bundles ... not everything ... so I did reach the end of that part of the project.
Accessing product pages has become very slow now. I haven't started getting the frequent gateway errors like in the forum, yet, though.
I've had this happen tons - things that are added to the cart don't actually make it to checkout. Add in the fact that ther receipt gives you a list of the same item with the same SKU code... Makes it kinda hopeless. Very depressing to work at adding these and have so many not processed.
I've also had the "hit" of buying bundles when offered where I already owned everything and now the dates are reset. Not cool.
If you check your order history on your Account page the individual orders should list the names of the 3dprinting license ( for example: "3D Printing License For I.F.D. Orion") even if they all use the same SKU (which makes no sense to me).
I have 20.000+ products and my product library loads and responds instantly, on a not very fast PC. My data are about 8 MB too. I only have added one 3dprinting license so far though.
So if it was slow to load also before you added the 3dprinting licenses there must be something wrong with your account or data (not uncommon), or the browser you use. But if the licenses are slowing things down that much it is a problem.
Good point, and another good reason for finding a way to add them all automatically.
Thanks. I don't remember it being slow before adding the 3dprinting licenses. I added a bunch more today and when I reloaded the page a little while ago it took over 3-minutes to finish loading. Actions after it loads are snappy as ever. Now have 21829 items of which 7269 are 3dprinting licenses I've added manually over the past week. (I'm retired and it's too hot to do anything but listen to music or watch TV and plod through my DAZ orders.)
Good to know it doesn't seem to be affecting others. Maybe it's the two browsers I'm running (but I have less than a dozen tabs on each!) or something else. I'll check Firefox's console stuff tomorrow. Calling it quits for the night.
Have you tried FamilyU's 3D Print License carting script in this thread? Free 3d printing licenses - Daz 3D Forums
If you want to try it, make sure you use V2 of the script.
Then it may be the number of licences that is causing it - as I currently only have a few interactive/3dprinting licenses in total I'm unable to evaluate it.
Page Not Found - did Daz take it down?
Link above is working fine for me.
Yeah, it's a shame that DAZland hasn't an official forum where such questions could be answered by DAZland employees...
My Free 3D Printing licenses message has disappeared. I used the link in that meesage to find the licenses to get and was working down that list. Now I no longer have it. Does anybody have that link? Thanks
It's in Members Only
I've tried to copy the link to Edge on another PC which I don't use for DAZ, still working fine. I'm using Firefox on this one.
Tried in Chrome after clearing cache, still working fine.
I had it but now it just goes to the main store page
The problem is that "looking at" and "doing something" are two entirely different things. AFAIK, there's been no published statement from DAZ to even indicate that it's a matter of real priority at Taffy Central.
So, the others are left with doing it manually?
It is not a DAZ post (or script) ; so, the choice of where to put it was up to the author (FamilyU)
Meanwhile Richard has said several times is looking at the problem.
I've been going through my prior purchases, a few months at a time, and adding everything to the cart. I haven't "Purchased" anything, but I do keep going back to see if I can stop, and just indicate that I want it all.
@DAZ Studio. If you haven't settled on a solution yet, might I recommend roping DAZ3D into it? That way, you could re-purpose it to look for missing licenses needed for a current project, and add them to the account's cart, when someone uses the program to put something together, and is short a license or two, after indicating their intention to use it for this, or some similar purpose, such as making a game model.
Create the tool, then create a "Kitchen Sink" scene, that adds everything you have in your library, in some small, low-poly/low-memory way, to the scene.
The same could be used to grab other dependencies, should someone try to open a scene they don't have all the parts for.
