^To be fair, video game players are more common than 3D hobbyists. Lowering your price doesn't necessary mean more revenue if your target market is already small.
Well I skipped some of those latest Grab Bag items once they've been $1.99 PFAD so I won't purchase them now for $3.99 or $2.99 for sure.
Well. Let me say how annoyed I am about the gift card sale today. Daz loves to kick customers in the teeth. It is hard not to feel this personally.
But good for those who didn't jump earlier.
So Daz has made some friends.
I simply don't understand the strategy here. I like this place.
OK, What are they doing?
Since the start of the sale I have purchased 10-12 of the grab-bag items for 4.99.
Today, all the items are back but for 3.99 (2.99 for 10 or more). So intead of paying 50 dollars for 10 items I could have spent 30 dollars for the same items.
In the past when they have a catch-up and put all the pc for a day back up it was for a slightly higher price (e.g. 1.99 to 2.99) rather than the other way around.
Maybe if I wait for the end of the sale everything will be free.
I now feel very stupid for buying these things and will not be making that mistake again.
WTF are they doing?
The reason I have so much stuff I never use is because of exactly this. The site bombards you with ever-changing short-term offers, that at a massive "discount" compared to a "full" price" and you feel under pressure to act quickly.
Because the prices change on a daily basis, seemingly at random, I would see the "true" price of an item is its average price over time, so by making the sales worse or less frequent, the true price goes up. The base price is the maximum you can pay. That's my view anyway, but others may see it differently.
And of course what matters to Daz is not how happy people are, it's how much money they make. My guess is that the sale hasn't gone well, because it wasn't.a good sale, which is why it keeps getting better. I don't feel that I'm complaining in my posts, I've seen them as an opportunity to say why I am or why I'm not buying things, because I do think this stuff is being read. Why would they not read free feedback?
Today is a better day. 500 grab bag items and a better gift card deal (mixed feelings on that one - if I get it, it needs to last). For my art, there are some great new items I would have bought anyway regardless of MM.![smiley smiley](https://www.daz3d.com/forums/plugins/ckeditor/js/ckeditor/plugins/smiley/images/regular_smile.png)
I will never understand how DAZ marketing works. Some of the items sold as $4.99 a few days ago are now back as $3.99 or $2.99. This is just asking for refunds from customers and more work for the sales department.
Some things I didn't buy as they were beyond impulse may now get bought. But a buffeting roller-coaster: not sure what it is supposed to achieve.
Trying to make a course change because they just finally noticed an iceberg? At this point I've given up even trying to figure out why DAZ is doing anything, and I'm certainly not going to openly speculate in any way that that could be taken as a presentation of possible fact other than to point out that this isn't the first time that they've done major about faces partway into a promotion. They've always been weird, and since rebranding as Tafi they've become damn near pschizophrenic.
That said, while the GC issue is indeed a nasty one, I don't expect it to be correctable, but I sure as heck will be turning in a price correction request for the MG items that I've bought thus far... especially since they're all currently showing up in the cart at $2.99 in the cart... >-<
Same here, and also what @James_H said about the giftcard sale a few days ago. Is this some kind of sick joke??? Guys, this is not the lottery or the stock market, I don't come here to bet on prices!
...my clue was "the other store".
Hmm, seems I did the right thing in waiting. Bought only 3 items from Grab Bag for $4.99 and paid $6 total more than I would have today.
With the Gift Card Sale it was the first time I used that ridiculous splitting of outfits into single clothing items. Bought a $200 gift card together with the top and pants of the Fancy Pants outfit to have the required two Newly Mad items. And the 50$ saved from the gift card went straight into purchasing 21 products from the Grab Bag. Was even able to apply the 18/6 coupon to lower the price to $2.70 per item.
I feel with everybody buying at the initial Gift Card sale or getting more stuff already for the regular Grab Bag price. Don't know what DAZ is doing lately - further lowering prices in catch-up sales is a first IMO. The try this price first then lower if sales are not good enough is a valid way for physical goods which are limited. With digital products this strategy makes IMO people only wait longer and keep them from buying stuff right at release or for the first discount which comes up.
Anyhow, have $150 in store credit left from that Gift Card sale which will probably easily take me through the rest of March Madness as new releases prices (like the Gothic Bundle and Dalia Hair but a joint cart price of $77, puh) tend to make me wait.
I got a gift card, but only because the add-on purchases were something I wanted at sensible price.
Yes its strange about the drop in price for a catchup day. Usually it's the other way around.
For those that held off there is much more choice today at $2.99 each for 10.
As regards to price, I stay calm by accepting that I'm unlikely to get best price. I am a trader in real life and you have to accept that "you win some, you lose some". Overall those $1.99 / $2.99 items that are recent(ish) are a great buy, and it's now looking like they are back.
It does make sense what you say; it does't, as you say, however, make it true.
Digital goods; no storage fees.
Better offer on a gift card, but the worthwhile amount 23% ish requires two items and I can't find one I like.
... Saving cash. Thank you.
Elsewhere there is something i've been eyeing. Total cost $65. I expect that if a gift card of over 20% doesn't appear - then Daz will miss out completely as if I spend that, Im far less likely to buy a gift card.
Whatever the outcome, I'll get something shiny to leave in my library - for possibly years - without using!
You're not wrong.
Was a misunderstanding, thanks @kyoto kid!
I put two of those new sunglasses in the cart, then a $201 gift card. The sunglasses get reduced to $3.76 each, gift card is $153.77, total is $161.65. Not sure if I will pull the trigger, I still have $60 store credit from the last gift card. Then again, $220 will last me a very long time even if I don't need the sunglesses. The higher prices have saved me a lot of money. Looked up my spending for the past few years...
2017 - $813
2018 - $1,211
2019 - $1,702
2020 - $1,536
2021 - $686
Prices started going up in 2021 which forced me to spend less. So far it's $109 in 2022 and as I said, I still have $60 remaining in credit. I need to pay for gas before I pay for Daz and Daz is making it easier to focus on gas.
I don't understand the pricing changes either but I haven't been able to follow as closely as usual... my computer was out of commission for a while when the cooler went caput. (Small problem in the midst of global issues but one less thing to worry about now that its fixed again!)
If anyone wanted DD Azuri but passed on the 20% intro discount, she's currently 30% off.

If I can swing a sale I'll let you guys know. You'll probably find out before I do, knowing the eagle eyes here! :)
And am I missing something, or is impossible to buy the big bundle AND get the full giftcard offer? To get the extra 10% off on the giftcard requires the purchase of 2 Newly Mad Products.... yet ALL of the Newly Mad Products are In the main bundle. Is DAZ Marketing intentionally trying to make everyone buy LESS product?
If so, they're definitely succeeding. ![devil devil](https://www.daz3d.com/forums/plugins/ckeditor/js/ckeditor/plugins/smiley/images/devil_smile.png)
Can we just rename this thread March Dumbess?
Well, the sale is called MADNESS. BTW, I haven't bought anything for 2 days. I can't stand looking at the same stuff over and over and over again. I also think it's sick that this thread has "mars" in the subject line, as if nobody knows Mars is the god of WAR. Is this supposed to be clever?
I don't think it's 'sick' i think it's a typo, and that was my first and only assumption.
Forget it.
Yes. Very, very strange strategy.
I do appreciate the Grab Bag going down from 4.99 to 3.99... but I'm just so baffled.
Wouldn't DAZ want to reward customers that spend now rather than later, as they have done in the past?
Perhaps best not to buy anything today, either. Perhaps everything will be 1.99 by the end of the month, who can tell?
Honestly, I'm fine paying 2.99 for items I actually want, instead of waiting for 1.99 and missing them. But there's plenty left there I won't get at 2.99, yet will consider at 1.99.
The mess they're doing with sales is annoying for sure, but doesn't really bother me. If an item is availabe for a price I'm willing to pay, I'll get it. If it's somehow cheaper tomorrow, so be it (this happens very rarely for me, but it might be more common among folks who are not as cheap as I am). Besides, It's not something unique to Daz, this can happen in any store. It's just a lot more noticeable here, since they have more deals in a day than others have in a week.
So far I bought 2 items for 4.99, but they're both worth it, so I can't be mad. On the other hand, daz lost at least 6 new releases from me (since MM started) that I would have bought, if they didn't mess with the intro discount. Items that would have probably made me buy some other bits and pieces, since they also unlocked side deals that I might have taken advantage of.
Mars is March in French.
This is really funny. A flood of complaint about Grab Bag prices being too high followed by more complaints because DAZ seems to have listened and reduced those prices. I didn't buy at 4.99 because I refused to pay that for items that were 1.99 not long ago. Now that some are 2.99 I have bought a couple but I'm still hoping for another 1.99 sale - at least for DAZ+ members: that membership costs money so I need to get some benefit from it.
I mostly agree with you. I bought 2 items at 4.99 and I'm not gonna have a fit over the 2 dollars I "lost". I'm more baffled than angry.
Although if I put myself in Tobias' shoes I'd be pretty put off.
Which is my point: wouldn't DAZ want to reward someone who was happy to spend like that, rather than make them feel like they got ripped off?
You aren't missing anything I don't think. I rarely buy bundles, in fact I can't remember the last time I did, but this one has loads of stuff in it I would use.
So in order to get the gift card offer, I need to buy two things released today. Today, they release 13 things:
The bundle, counts as one item. So if you buy it, you cannot get the deal. Or am I supposed to buy something twice. Can I do even that? I'm going back on the other thread to raise this in the hope that they fix it so I can buy the bundle I want to buy.
For me the most funny thing is, that the grab bag items had that "doesn't work with further discounts (aka DAZ+ Coupons)" when they were sold for $ 4.99, while they accept the coupons, now that they are sold at $ 3.99, allowing me to buy five of them for $ 2.75 each today...
Seems there is quite a chaos going on at DAZ nowadays...
Fans of the Gothic Clothing Bundle note: two items (Rainy Koo Socks and Shoes for Genesis 8 and 8.1 Females in the Gothic Style 2 bundle, and Melantha Horns for Genesis 8 and 8.1 Females in the Blackstar Tempest Outfit bundle) have previously been released, in case you have purchased some earlier bundles.
The first is part of the dForce Rainy Koo Outfit for Genesis 8 and 8.1 Females (in turn part of Cutesy Clothing Bundle), and the second is in dForce Melantha Outfit for Genesis 8 and 8.1 Females (in turn part of Forbidden Fairy Fantasy Bundle, which is also part of Clash of the Fairies Mega Bundle).
