Okaaaayyyyy .... one of the items in my cart just went to $8.69 both in the cart and on the Grab Bag category page, where it was previously $3.99. No, I don't already own it and there are exactly 10 Grab Bag items in the cart, nothing else. Did somebody make a boo-boo or what? Getting more confused by the minute with this year's Madness.![frown frown](https://www.daz3d.com/forums/plugins/ckeditor/js/ckeditor/plugins/smiley/images/confused_smile.png)
Which item? It m,ay be something that was not meant to be included in the first place.
It looks like they also raised the price on those previously released items (according to Daz Deals price history). I dislike the recent policy of sneaking old items into a new bundle.
Just as a FYI, since we were talking about it earlier, the gift card deal has been amended so that you can now use newly mad items. This means that it's technincally possible to get the deal if you buy the bundle. Personally, I don't feel that's a good offer, so I'm going to pass, and pick three of the outfits.
Exactly, and since it's actually this very god Mars who lent his name to this very month (check Roman history for details), it's not such a dumb thread name I think. But let's not fight, there's so much war already.
This one: https://www.daz3d.com/hd-face-staples-and-stitches-for-genesis-8-males
First showed up as $3.99, it was one of the $4.99 items I missed on either the first or second day of the Grab Bag items. If it doesn't belong can someone remove it from the category? Or at least let people know it's not part of that sale.
It seems to be in Fast Grab as well, which probably explains the problem.
That must be it, then. And I just spotted another few things there that've been on my wishlist awhile, so now to sort my priorities. Unfortunately, my computer picked this month to finally die on me so my hobby budget will be extremely small for the foreseeable future.![sad sad](https://www.daz3d.com/forums/plugins/ckeditor/js/ckeditor/plugins/smiley/images/sad_smile.png)
It makes no sense buying an expensive bundle as a buy in item for a gift card, even if it is allowed. Since you must use cash to buy gift cards, and not store credit, then that bundle is not further discounted using store credit that was bought using an earlier card. You would be much better off buying a larger gift card with one of the sunglass products or some other cheap item, and then get in effect an extra 24% off the bundle by using the gift card store credit. That 24% would save you 20 dollars or so, easily covering the cost of the other buy in item.
This! If I need to purchase something to get the gift card discount I always use the lowest price item that qualifies and only purchase the gift card and qualifying item(s) on the order. This applies even if I don't have a use for the other items. But it just dawned on me - a use for thes things. Time to grunge them up and stick them into an abandoned building as an abandoned private museum.
Not to mention that Mars was NOT just the God of War, he was also a Guardian of Agriculture. Ares, the Greek god fom which the Romans derived Mars, was just the god of war or, more specifically "the spirit of battle," and generally one of the least worshipped of that Pantheon. The Romans, of course, had a different viewpoint, and even through later days of the Byzantine Empire after the fall of Rome itself, say their legions as a stabilizing force. This dichotomy is perhaps most perfectly captured in the film LIFE OF BRIAN as Monty Python members Terry Jones and Michael Palin earned their college degrees at Cambridge and Oxford, respectively, in Philosophy/Medeival English literature and History.

REG: They've bled us white, the b*tards. They've taken everything we had, and not just from us, from our fathers, and from our fathers' fathers.
LORETTA: And from our fathers' fathers' fathers.
REG: Yeah.
LORETTA: And from our fathers' fathers' fathers' fathers.
REG: Yeah. All right, Stan. Don't labour the point. And what have they ever given us in return?!
XERXES: The aqueduct?
REG: What?
XERXES: The aqueduct.
REG: Oh. Yeah, yeah. They did give us that. Uh, that's true. Yeah.
COMMANDO #3: And the sanitation.
LORETTA: Oh, yeah, the sanitation, Reg. Remember what the city used to be like?
REG: Yeah. All right. I'll grant you the aqueduct and the sanitation are two things that the Romans have done.
MATTHIAS: And the roads.
REG: Well, yeah. Obviously the roads. I mean, the roads go without saying, don't they? But apart from the sanitation, the aqueduct, and the roads--
COMMANDO: Irrigation.
XERXES: Medicine.
COMMANDOS: Huh? Heh? Huh...
COMMANDO #2: Education.
COMMANDOS: Ohh...
REG: Yeah, yeah. All right. Fair enough.
COMMANDO #1: And the wine.
COMMANDOS: Oh, yes. Yeah...
FRANCIS: Yeah. Yeah, that's something we'd really miss, Reg, if the Romans left. Huh.
COMMANDO: Public baths.
LORETTA: And it's safe to walk in the streets at night now, Reg.
FRANCIS: Yeah, they certainly know how to keep order. Let's face it. They're the only ones who could in a place like this.
COMMANDOS: Hehh, heh. Heh heh heh heh heh heh heh.
REG: All right, but apart from the sanitation, the medicine, education, wine, public order, irrigation, roads, a fresh water system, and public health, what have the Romans ever done for us?
XERXES: Brought peace.
REG: Oh. Peace? Shut up!
There hasn't been much in the new sale items I wanted, at least not at the prices they are asking, so I was fine spending the 4.99 for some things that I wanted.
Now, if on April 5th there is an April Showers sale where those items I got are available for 1.99 I would slap myself on the head and go "oh well'.
That would be the extent, it wouldn't bother me.
What bugs me is that it is the same sale just a few days later.
But I have learned my lesson, No more grab bag items for me. Maybe at the next catchup they will be 1.99
Thanks both, this is certainly good advice. Something that wasn't clear is that I had a 15% gift card already, the one they sold me earlier in the week, and I didn't know I couldn't use it for any of the purchase, not even the qualifying items. This was my reasoning, which I discovered was incorrect when I tried to check out.
If I'd waited until after checkout, my average gift card saving would have been 19.5%.
So by using the better gift card, I would save $3.77, but I'd have had to buy items in the bundle twice which would add $8.37, so I'd pay $4.60 more. This was wrong!
I understand why i can't use the gift card to buy another one, but not why you can't use it to buy the quilifying items. Because of that (needless?) restriction, you are both absolutely right in this case.
Either way, I didn't buy the bundle, and I probably now have as many items from it as I'm ever likely to buy for a cost of about $36. So Daz probably did me a favour.
Today there are a few core characters in the Madness Grab Bag: Holt 8, Mabel 8, Nix 8, Celani 8, Rynne 8, The Girl 8, Drutherson 8 and Ollie 8
I was just going to say the same thing. Buy 10 items today and those top line characters are just $2.99 each! That's pretty good. I finally picked up the girl 8 and lee 8 today for $2.99 each.
Also, (just because nobody is going to talk about this and for the sake of completeness) the old stuff has varied a lot in price too so far in the "mars" sale. First they were $1, then $1.10, today $0.8 (a 30% ish swing). I bought a load at $1 and $1.10, so didn't get the ultimate low of $0.80. It really doesn't make much difference at this level. Pretty sure once or twice I've seen items at $0.60 and $0.4 if you are really patient. It feels a bit like buying penny shares, one minute they are up, the next they are down.
Anyway, I'm happy to be tempted into a load of non-wishlist stuff in March because I've found that quite a lot of it pops up to be useful later in life. :)
Yes, some nice items in there today. I doubt I'll mange 10, but $3.99 is a good price for The Girl 8, good enough that I'm not going to worry about whether she was $3.50 in the middle of the night three months ago. As you say, it doesn't matter at this level... But should I wait for the catch up? Becaise on past form, she might be even cheaper, and I will manage to get 10...Always a gamble, but at least its a cheap one!
Ha ha - that had me laughing out loud. Love the extreme example, but I know what you mean. We all want to be the best stewards of our resources, but it's 99% impossible with Daz pricing so there comes a point where you have to forgive yourself and remember - this is for fun*.
*OK I acknowlege that this is some people's careers on here, but we are all getting bargains against the "normal" price (which ever discount level you deem that to be).
I hunt those Daz bargains and nuggets of treasure as entertainment, completely separated from my actual rendering and use of the assets!
So browsing the Daz store and shopping the sales is just as much a hobby as is rendering artwork. My friend and I compare finds and see if we each found the best deal of the day. I know many others do the same thing and there are even several threads in the forums here that support such "fun" endeavors.
I spend a lot more money on things I do not need when I think they are incredible bargains. Like most others, recently my purchasing of these types of items have been drastically reduced.
Even though the special treasured bargains are becoming rarer day by day, I still hold out hope each day that something may be found that I can purchase for an awesome price!
Couldn't resist!![laugh laugh](https://www.daz3d.com/forums/plugins/ckeditor/js/ckeditor/plugins/smiley/images/teeth_smile.png)
I also enjoy browsing the store and finding good deals. I do keep a spreadsheet with my goods and try to use an item at least 1 time per dollar spent just to keep me from buying ALL THE THINGS. This is my retail therapy. LOL.
So yesterday I spent a ton on the $2.99 items and got a gift card with two outfits from the bundle I liked. There were even a few $2,99 items I liked but was on the fence about and didn’t get, thinking there would be a bunch more today I liked better. Today I can’t find 10 but that’s fine. I spent enough yesterday. It seems like it must be a new marketing team that’s learning from its mistakes or being told from higher up to do things they know are wrong.
Or possibly stepping away from original orders from higher ups who didn't have a boots on the ground perpective, and going back to a more proven playbook. Please note that I'm not saying that's the case and I emphasize that I could be wrong, but... the classic example is JCPenneys, which went from a traditional seasonal sales pricing strategy to an "always the same low price" model with no additional discounts or clearance sales under the guidance of their new CEO Ron Johnson, who'd been brought over with much fanfare from Apple. It turned out to be one of the all time great retail blunders as it completely misunderstood their customer base, who were used to seeing a Manufacturers Suggested Retail price and then a discounted price, buying on perceived value. And now, suddenly, nothing was ever on sale! Sales dropped a staggering $3.3 BILLION in the first year alone, sending JCP into a negative spiral that was only partially slowed when the old model was restored and the previous CEO was brought back to replace Johnson. Again, I'm not saying this is what's happening and could be completely off base, but the focus of Tafi on products outside the traditional DAZ3D product line means that attention, by default, is no longer the only focus of upper management, while, over the last several years the 3D market and the positions of the major players in the 3D Hobbyist space has changed dramatically from a BOTG perspective. WIth that in mind, all that info may not have trickled back up to the top of the management pyramid.
I wait for no buy in conditions.
G8 core characters for 3.99, that's a good deal. No complaints from me today.![smiley smiley](https://www.daz3d.com/forums/plugins/ckeditor/js/ckeditor/plugins/smiley/images/regular_smile.png)
I've seen something like this mentioned a few times now. Is this a Platinum Plus thing? Because I can't see it (I'm not a member)
Yes. Daz+
I go for the maximum discount - and the only time I use my credit card here is to buy a gift card. I made that decision over three years ago, so for the past 3+ years I've been paying for items with money discounted at 10% or better - usually better. Most of the time there's a required buy-in the list includes something I can make use of as-is or with a minimal change.
And the "+" is now all too often being applied to the price tags. :/
That's pretty much the model I try to go by. If I have to buy something that I'll never use in order to get the best overall deal, well... that's what I'll do. That said, back when the introductory prices on products were often the best deal we'd see on a specific product for multiple months, I was far more prone to buy new releases as they came out, as time passed I've moved increasingly to only buying new releases when necessary to trigger a greater overall discount... especially when they went to that ridiculous 20% off. Given that we all know that EVERYTHING in the store will be offered at a 50-70% discount within a short time frame of it dropping from New Release status, there's no reason to do otherwise unless you absolutely have to have that item immediately oir have a specific vendor that you are specifically trying to support. And yeah, it's kind of sad that DAZ used to be known as the place with all the stacking discounts and now they've cut, hacked and slashed everything back so that the discounted GCs are often the only way to get any stacked value.
What's most discouraging about all of this is that there no longer seems to be a real understanding of who the average DAZ consumer is, or even an interest in trying to maintain the basic building blocks of expanding that base, and instead things keep wandering off chasing unicorn markets like NFTs and Avatars. I and others have carped on this before, but the fact that there hasn't even been any attempt to rewrite and reformat the basic users guides since the days of DS 4.6 and Genesis 2 (in 2013!!!) seems insane considering that the entire technology has changed, with three new base figures sytems introduced in the interim, 3DL being replaced by Iray as the default rendering engine, the old dynamics system dropped for D-Force, and many of the other now-basic features of Studio having either not existed back then or did but were never mention in THAT version since thajt version itself was a hastily rewritten version of an even earlier manual. Could the cost of a decent manual really be much more than the cost of those inane YouTube commercials that inexplicably keep focusing on the areas where DS is the least competitive with other software systems in the same price range, by which I mean free. Arghh. Everytime I see that one with the generic mocap and the caption "make 'em dance!" I cringe, it's so wince inducing. It's as if Claires suddenly released an ad trying to compete with Tiffany's, or McDonalds tried to sell itself as Ruth's Chris Steak House. >-<
Customer Service is terrible now too. If they don’t resolve a current issue I’m done here. I’ve been here since 2005 and ready to leave for good if this isn’t resolved. I don’t even want to know how many thousands of dollars I’ve spent here. I don’t need any more content but I keep buying almost out of habit. I can break the habit. And there are always other stores. Just really pissed off now and really miss the good old days, After I use up my store credit, I’m done if the issue isn’t resolved, It’s like ending a long relationship when you realize the relationship is toxic but for some reason you just don’t leave. I think I’m ready to break up. There are other fish in the digital content sea.
Wow. That's absolutely perfectly said and sums up how I've been feeling as well.
