Apparently, I'm one of the crazy people! Over 3200 items plus countless freebies and products from other sites. And my craziness collection is nothing compared to others here. surprise Oh wait... @Cybersox has one of just about everything laugh As I've said before, I have no idea how you even traverse your library. I practically drown every time I go wading into mine.

Today Daz has a great gift for us: Daz Originals in worth of $25 for free. There are no conditions, the coupon is usable twice and there are 4640 items in the selection. Thank you very much, Daz.

would you belive i cannot find 2 items i want out of that free stuff?

...I had a difficult time myself.  For one I'm sure I already have a lot of items that would have been on that sale.  There were two on my wishlist I got and a nice set of clothing that's dForce that I may be able to use without or use very minimally.

The one smart marketing move DAZ made today was the $25 freebies. I’m betting most people went a little over the $25 and paid the difference. I know I purchased 4 items that I never would have purchased normally but ended up paying 97 cents which, of course, is very little but 97 cents more than I ever would have paid for that older content and that adds up when many do the same. So I hope they keep up with that strategy which is win/win,

...I ended up paying 84¢ on the first use and then took about a 4.50$ loss on the second because none of the less expensive items interested me (a good portion were Gen4 and even Gen3 [sans any Aiko stuff because I probably already have it]) and 00:59 Daz time (22:59 where I live) was fast approaching.

    TODAY'S CATCHUP SALE.

I had 19 items that I didn't buy during the last week as I couldn't get to 10 @ $2.99 each on a particular day.

I would have bought at least 10 today at $2.99 maybe all 19, instead at $3.49 I bought 4.

I would have bought many, many more @$1.99 every day. The vast majority of these items were not on my wishlist.

Whilst Daz continues to experiment with pricing, money is being left on the table.

...that's often happened to me with BYOB deals I can maybe find 4 or 5 but it's a frequently real stretch to pick 8.  In the last major sale where they had this offer, I think I only built two because there were a number of A3 items I didn't have yet.

..depends on the BIOS.  I was able to get a 3060 at a reasonable price from the  manufacturer, however my system still has the original P6T X58 MB with PCIe 2,0 slots, and DDR3 memory..  I tried every tweak I knew of or read about but all I can get is a standard VGA output.  The MB is around 11 years old so even the available upgrade for the BIOS doesn't help.  Basically I need a new MB but that also means a new CPU, new memory and new OS as I am still on W7.

Right now that costs about 1,000$

Not quite yet, as I have yet to find a reason to side-grade down to the G8.1 figures, but the universe does seem to be pushing me in that general direction. blush And, for the record, there is no truth to the rumour that DAZ sold me illegal clones of Richard Haseltine  and Stonemason. Well, not that DAZ or I will admit to, anyway.

...actually 160$ as it's the Pro Edition, Home Edition requires signing in though an MS account.  Pro Edition also allows deferral of updates for up to two years. Need to finally bite the bullet on this as software/hardware developers have been dropping W7 like a hot rock. I'm on the last Nvidia driver available to W7 for Iray and the latest release for Blender also dropped W7 support. I also have Adobe Painter 2022 (through a bundle deal) that only supports W10 and higher.

Oh, and one of those crazy types who has 5,382 items installed (according to the DIM) which doesn't count freebies and products from other stores.

@kyoto kid It happend again today, only this time I did actually pay $3.99 each for 2 items becuse they were in my wishlist and I haddn't seen them that cheap before.

We might have had this conversation before but I'm seeing a number of A3 items in the Mad Artist Stores section, sorted by price ascending. It looks like it's the same offers day in day out, but in fact each time, a few artists come in and a few are taken out, so new bargains every day.

Again I picked up a reasonable number of items between $0.70 and $1.04. Happy hunting!

but I can say that by sorting the artist sale pages by price ascending, I could find some old G1 / G2 clothing I'd missed, including some incredible G2 boots.

Exactly. This is what I've been saying, there some bargains out there not part of the $3.99-$2.99 grab bag sales. Just a bit of effort to sort ascending price, and then maybe a bit of conversion at the other end G2-G8. (Although G2 is often enough for me to get animating as I can mocap straight into G2).

The "problem" with that is that most of the low priced stuff is for old generations. Folks like me who pretty much started with G8 don't find those discounts (better say items) very appealing. I do own few clothes conversions for both G2 and G3 to G8, but the extra time and effort it requires for the micro adjustments (I also have fit control and mesh grabber) is just not worth it for me, specially G2 conversions (G3 is fine). I end up using a close enough version of that outfit from G8 itself. The appeal of the grab bag (at least for me) is that most of the stuff is for the current generation.

I only use 8.1 now, I started on G3. I often adjust clothing in Blender even when it's made for G8 becasue I'm not sasisfied with the fit, but that's just me I expect!

Top tip. Don't try rendering in conjunction with MARSA 3D then

  • If you missed/passed up, like me, https://www.daz3d.com/cyberpunk-hair-for-genesis-8-female when it was in the $4 Grab Bag a couple days ago it's back, so you have a second chance. (I think I saw 1 or 2 others that were repeats as well.) I don't know if I will get it today, for the same reason I passed before - it looks good and I love buying hairs but I have similar ones already and want to spend my very limited MM budget on either my wishlist or items I don't have a lot of but will likely use.

Looks like Daz thinks MM '22 is as meh/blah as most of us posting here, if they are repeating things (outside of catchups) for the most popular MM feature - as well as the "Hardly different from the daily promos" vibe.

Yes, that was what I was thinking about - the weekend sales when every item came back on sale again. I had hoped for one the last weekend, and when it didn't appear, I thought maybe this weekend. But with hte new way of how DAZ acts, nothing can be sure. Perhaps there won't even be a catch up sale this time.

I'm not sure the account thing is that dire. True, the Pro version still allows full local accounts, but "there are ways" for Home users.

The update deferral... I found first-hand one can defer updates forever by disabling the update service and using a 3rd party firewall to prevent forced downloads.  While I don't regret it, I don't recommend doing that. One might end up trapped in a comically old build for the rest of time unless willing to completely reinstall Windows. As I had no interest in doing the latter, I have the former.

You can also apparently, even now, still get Wndows for free.

  • My wallet's safe with today's offerings. I was happy to see on Friday & Saturday a few of the older bits going for very little. I have been hankering after the old Ness Period Reproductions 'Regency Dining Room'. It's an old, old Poser set, but with a certain amount of care and attention it scrubs up really well in Iray, same as the amazing furniture Ness did. Anyway, that's what my $25 coupon went on, and I was so happy with it I shan't bemoan the fact it didn't come to within $5 of the full value of the coupon for one second.

    Regards,

    Richard

I understand where you are coming from, makes sense. From where I stand G3-G8 are great for closeups and small scenes, in fact they can blow away the older items for that purpose. If you are into larger scenes then the whole spectrum of generations should be of interest due to the lower poly objects / lower res textures.

I hope in a few years, the whole debate will be irrelevant when computing power has increased dramatically. However I've been holding on for that dream now for at least 7 years. It never speeds up enough!

there is more going on under the hood with G3&8 though because I can fit several dressed G1&2 figures in a scene but only 2 G3&8 before I run out of RAM.

This is before I even render.

V3,M3,A3 I can fit 30+ dressed haired ones

OK so we are in the last week of March and my DAZ budget for this month has hardly been touched. Nothing very appealing at Rendo either. I am beginning to think that I have enough and what's left on offer is not worth my pennies.

What strikes me so often this month is that the sales seem to be regurgitating the same items at different discount offers. I have to look very hard to convince myself that something is changing at all other than the price going up and down. An example is the many animation packs which appear in practically every flash sale (and were before MM started, I believe). I'm hoping that the DAZ desire to sell off as many of those animations as possible is an indication that a new animation system is being developed.

  • ecks201ecks201 Posts: 446

I was teetering on the edge of getting UltraSceneryXT.
But seeing as they've cut the discount from 30% to 20% that has made my mind up for me. No sale.
