Among people in the forum, Daz seems to be leaving some money on the table - Anecdotal evidence supports that idea. But this could be the greatest sale ever for Daz co. We'll never really know. Also, some (sometimes many) of the grab bag items are DO. Those are 100% owned by Daz and they keep all the money.

I don't see why people who don't use the forum would have completely different buying habits; it's not like the forum teaches anyone the proper way to spend. I probably wouldn't have used the forum either, if there wasn't a sales issue almost daily when I first joined; now I'm just used to it. In fact, I'd probably spend less if the issue thread wasn't there, since I have no intention to bother with tickets and without the mods I doubt they'd fix everything so quick..

As for losing money on the table; they definitely do from me with the poor/limited grab bag selection - haven't been able to find enough items in the past 5 days. That's already (at least) 150$ I would have spent if the selection wasn't so limited.

Now I'm just waiting for a catch-up, if one's happening, but that's Daz's loss. If I could have found 8-9 items I wanted daily, I'd could always get 1-2 fillers to reach 10... items that I won't touch during a catch-up.

I've seen today a bundle in the grab bag, that includes an item I already bought in the grab bag section a week ago.

That alone makes me even more cautious about buying things that I'm on the fence about.

    > Oh, Bonus Mad, might be a good deal.
    > Hm, seems my last new release purchase was 4 days ago so not qualifiying.
    > Cool, a new bundle and I'm even back on the coupon train with an extra 10% off, in the cart it goes.
    > Hm, don't need original figures, let's see, could get the parts from the bundle I really want for $30 whereas the bundles lowest is $42.
    > OK, switching to the single products.
    > Character and hair is nice, but do I really need more and right now. OK, maybe later.
    > OK, we have the environment and the glasses left but if I buy now I might regret later once the bundle get's a better discount.
    > Then let's skip this and move to Mad Grab.
    > OK, 15 products in cart bringing all items to 2,99. Let's see if we need them all.
    > Shoot, after removing those I do not really want/need for that price I'm under 10 so a new round with the 3,99 price point?

    Dear Daz,

Today in your grab bag sale there were 2 items on my wishlist at $3.99 which I didn't buy and removed from my wishlist. There were hardly any cheap items under $2 in the mad artists section either. The upshot is much of my Mad March fund is still left unspent.

    It's not working.

    Yours faithfully,

    Scififunk.

And just a plea for international sales: moving all flash sales into my sleep team saves me money. I would have looked otherwise.

It's got pretty ridiculous lately. I have a thread that keeps track of them. There are a couple more I haven't added yet, but it's pretty much up to date apart from that. There's one at 11:00 PM and one a 3:00 AM UK time, so two more where I had no chance to buy anything. One of them had 65% off a couple of products in my wishlist, the other offered up to 79% off Daz Originals, so maybe there would have been a purchase or two.

They are the only good sales nowadays, and that is why it's relevant to March Madness. March Madness is not, in my view a good sale. These flash sales generally are.

It annoys me to the extent that once my current store credit expires, I'm not buying any more stuff. I don't see why I should have to pay more than the US, which going by the times is where they target these sales. They addressed it for a few days at the end of February, then they broke it again, and I think that's what makes it worse. It shows that it can be done. I don't feel the support I've given them over the years is being valued as it should be, and I can't feel happy spending money here any more, and hobbies (which for me is what it is) should be fun.

Can anyone else think of any other company that behaves in this way? I.e. effectively offers it's best deals only to a specific group of customers based on where they live.

    https://www.daz3d.com/forums/discussion/545436/flash-sales-as-long-as-you-don-t-live-in-europe#latest

Apologies for the rant, but it's how I feel.

If I remember correcly , those bonus mad items used to be really cheap -- $2 or less even. Same with the KEY items ... not $100 bundles.
I'm now at the point where I scroll, not look. and mainly not even look. But its not just MM...DAZ+ pricing in general is now $5. Textures are $3+.
The inexpensive products are no more. But it will be like gas, after awhile it will be the new normal.

Now I feel like a fool for hanging on so long and spending so much money here. Why did I do that? OH - great sales and can't pass bargains. At least that is all gone now so my spend is going to go way down.  I don;'t overall like DS all that much but the results are pretty decent. Ultrascenery saved my use of DS actually. I quit using Vue when support for older versions lapsed and they went to subscription, so Ultrascenery helped me get over that program for sure.

Anyway ... MM yeah, its maddening but not in a good way

The question is, do you feel that you get value from the items you've bought? Do you get enjoyment? That's what really matters. If I didn't ever buy or download another item, I have enough to keep going for a long time. I think a lot of the items are pretty well-crafted. Some items, I admire the work done. These can be fun toys, nice visual aids, building blocks for artwork, and more. I know you've experienced some serious technical difficulties. That's no fun. But I suspect your library is an enormous playground. I hope you can get some enjoyment from that.

One upon a time, I remember seeing .49c and .99c sales in the stores then it increased to 1.99.which seems to be average.   The only thing I bought or could afford was Toon Generation 4 bundle @ 4.99  - I used catfood monies for this purchase and my kiitty cat is not happy!....LOL

my obsession of shopping here precluded much enjoyment..I did enjoy shopping here, but not much any longer. It is cool to see the new stuff, but now there is soo much repetition not much is new new. Yeah, its time to use the stuff. Less shopping more creating.

Me too. The flash sales today actually had items in my wishlist that were the cheapest I've ever seen them. But to get the deep discounts you had to purchase four items and now you're talking $25-plus. To get one item I need, I had to buy three more that were not a priority. The $25 stayed in my pocket. There was more than one flash sale today so we're really talking $50 between the two (two that I saw anyway). $50 is way too much when I would have been happy spending $12 for two items between the sales.

No way of knowing if Daz is impacted by this or not. If they are, they need to re-think this discount-in-bulk strategy. If not, too bad for me.

I'm always here looking for product, these days it's mostly just looking. Spent the day creating.

Wendy - congrats on picking up a cheap item.

daveso - good for you. I like the idea of a buying season and a creating season (where you don't buy) mine starts in jan of next year where I won't even look - honest!

An example is the many animation packs which appear in practically every flash sale (and were before MM started, I believe). I'm hoping that the DAZ desire to sell off as many of those animations as possible is an indication that a new animation system is being developed.

Or more a case of what price they'll actually sell at, as they're badly overpriced for the little that's in them.  As for a new animation system... there are so many other improvements that need to be done with DAZ Studio itself before it would even begin to be competitive, not the least of which are soft-body physics, cutting the ridiculously huge size of so many newer DAZ products, and, as of the last time I checked... and I'll admit that has been a while... the fact that DS doesn't support motion blur in Iray, which means going back to 3DL rendering, which is being increasingly less supported here.

My animated sequences in Daz and even when I render in animations in Blender, I don't render with the motion blur on because then you're locked in to the render, I'd rather have a clean plate. What I do is in After Effects, I apply pixel motion blur to my shots and I have control of how much blur is in the image sequence.

@benniewoodell I know this is OT for this thread so I'll keep the point short and you can think about it. I have watched your YouTube tutorial on using Diffeo to send your scenes to Blender for animation but I am wondering if you have mastered the animation (simulation) of clothing on the character in Blender? If so, perhaps you could share with us in a new video. If there's a discussion to be had on this I'm happy to split this off into its own thread.

@marble you know, every time I think I've got it all figured out and get a great simulation on one item that makes me go heck yeah, I've got it! I go back and do a simulation on something else with what should have been the same settings and it crinkles up like an aluminum can, so I don't know. It's really annoying lol. I'm still working at it though, and when I finally get it figured out, I'll make another video. Right now just because I'm trying to get these three projects I'm on finished so I can start putzing around again and experimenting, I've been animating in Maya since I have access to it through the class I'm in, exporting those keys to Daz so I get the better, smoother IK animation and then using dForce for the cloth simulation. But I am definitely trying to master this still and when I do, I'll post a video in the Blender part of the Daz forums smiley Hope all is well!

@benniewoodell - Thanks for the reply. Maya is way beyond my resources so I'll have to wait. I have been put off moving my scenes to Blender because of the difficulty I foresee in clothing simulation. Fine if the scene has naked people running around but I'd like them to have realistically draped clothes. I hope you get some joy with your experiments.

...not the MM I remember, most sale catgories, save for the grab bag and artist stores, require purchasing one more more new releases for a discount.

  • I'm guessing that this March Madness sale isn't going to suddenly get good at the end of the month - disappointing. I miss most of the Flash Sales since I live in the UK. :/

I haven't seen anyone from Daz addressing all the comments here, no response at all, and that makes me wonder where Daz is headed. I'm assuming it's away from the personal consumer/hobbyist market? Otherwise they would have been responding to our concerns. I know there's moderation in the forums, you see threads merged and closed and so on. Community managers usually try to address valid concerns in their communities, conveying issues to the business and marketing teams and back to the forums, which makes me wonder if it just doesn't matter to them. It's concerning.

My thoughts as well. It's gone back into March sadness mode for me. Even the sort mad artist by price ascending trick is not yielding anything for me now.

On the bright side, anyone into 1950s scenes can get this dForce Vintage Soda HD Outfit for Genesis 8 Female(s) for $3.99 today which is the cheapest I've seen it, so I bought it.

    Here's to a mega catchup!

Overall, the forums are peer-to-peer, so unless Daz has started a thread for info and feedback, they normally do not monitor threads. Direct feedback to Daz can be done from a ticket. There is also a "we'd love to hear from you" option when you make a purchase with room for text feedback.

In fact I really like each and every of todays new releases but I guess I will limit myself to Zev0's Projection Manager and the Tanned/Wet Skins Bundle. Both of these I might use much more often than single pieces of clothing or hair or characters. So wishlisted most of the rest for now. Having the key item plus two is maxing out new release discounts so this is fine.

And although I would be able to find 10+ Mad Grab items today I will probably skip those for - a hopefully coming - catch-up at the weekend. Hard as I wanted things like Toon Axolotl since ages but from the 10+ probably half would only be nice to have and with $2,99 I probably wait to find 10+ products from my personal must-have category. The Charming Casual Outfit might be a good buy-in then. Let's hope I'll own those weekend key items then.
